it makes sense to me that the partial mobilization is more about forcing the existing contract soldiers to remain in the army past their existing contract dates than it is about adding large numbers of conscripts.

but it also makes sense to me that combined with the expected declarations that the contested areas of eastern ukraine are part of russia and thus areas where conscripts can be legally deployed, that conscripts could provide some needed manpower, especially in support and reserve roles, that could free up more combat-ready troops to move forward.

The Ukrainians are being hunted down and blasted by Russian drones, artillery, and the other night Russian precision weapons decimated entire Ukrainian units holed up in buildings.

It’s sad to see #neocons so chubbed up that they actually think the Russians aren’t shooting back.

Getting torched by a HIMAR cowering in a cold Ukrainian trench does not sound like a pleasant way to go

Right? Why doesn't Ukraine just give in?

This is a potential derailment to the Ukraine cause that I hadn't considered. It comes from a Dem, but I could see it being true.

magas for sure worship putin and would shut it down. but, I don't think there are enough magas in congress to do so. now a trump v2 or desantis presidency would for sure maga it up and we'd be ignoring russia doing atrocities 24/7/365.

I edited my post to include Sargent's follow up to the original tweet. I thought I saw a tweet about McCarthy negotiating with the tea party on things in order to sway them so he remains leader. Again, even if a majority of the house supports proposed bills I wonder if McCarthy will let them make it to the floor.

republicans would almost certainly govern according to hastert's rule if they return to the majority.  although there have usually been some exceptions made when considered absolutely necessary.

I’m sure the Germans and all of Europe won’t be fine with some massive energy squeeze to end the rapey bear as a threat.

Palantir ceo Alex Karp is on cnbc right now saying Putin mumped up bigtime and is now backed into a corner and will for sure pop off a nuke because he has no way out and no way to say he “won”. He’s suggesting the rest of the world needs to give him a soft out to limp home with something.

He’s also talking about how Russia got completely mumped up by western technology/software warfare.

Interesting comment that Russia gains some sort of parity (800b US spend v. 60b Russia spend) by being willing to commit human right violations. They have no handcuffs.

On the one hand that sounds like a tech guy talking out his ass about something he doesn’t know anything about.

On the other hand, it is possible Palantir has all data on every device in the world that they have analyzed and that is concerning.

I’m having a hard time wrapping my head around Karp and Thiel just vibing. Too much intensity in one room. Let’s eff up Gawker via Hulk Hogan’s sex tape and also just own the Russians. Yeah man, this will work.

Yeah, he’s doing a lot of “can’t talk about that” but also talking a lot about privacy of citizens being paramount. He also said crap a few times, lmao. I like Karp a lot.

I think China keeps this from happening. I don’t agree with China on much of anything, but I do actually think that their leadership believes they are serving the best interest of their people as a whole. I don’t think China wants to deal with a global (and local) famine as a result of nuclear winter.
