The car wash thread got me thinking...I have a very nice, well maintained vehicle, but I am seriously thinking about additoinally purchasing a cheap-as-possible ugly truck that I can give zero fucks about.  The ideal situation would be a truck that was as new as possible, had a crap ton of miles, body rust, other blemishes, and yet still have a reliable engine and transmission.  Very tricky situation to try and find just the right mix of "looks like crap but drives like heaven."

I want the freedom of not giving two shits about what happens to it, yet the confidence to drive it anywhere.  Is this a paradox, a cosmic impossibility even?!?!

And you won’t find one cheap. The problem with the reliable shitty truck is that everyone else wants the same truck.

a former fleet truck is about the best you can do if you can find one that was basically just used as transportation instead of towing, plowing, etc but was professionally maintained

You would be asking for all kinds of mechanical issues.  I owned a VW bug in HS and it could barely go 60 mpg with a buck wind.  There is no way this would be reliable and KDOT probably wouldn't allow it on the interstate.
Hot time in Kat town tonight.

Get all the clearances needed for this purchase, then be reminded on gE that it's impossible, and then allocate that money to boat things.

These are difficult but not impossibly at all to find. FB marketplace and craigslist(yes it's still a thing and only have it on owner sold) are the best places. If by some chance you come across someone that has a For Sale sign in the window of their vehicle that puppy might as well have a bullseye on it.

It was a '64 bug.  I grew up in the time of hippies, not beatnecks or "greatest generation" hicks.

I do check those regularly.  I am hoping by late summer or early fall the used car market will have corrected a bit.

Bump
If there was a gif of nicname thwarting the attempted-flag-taker and then gesturing him to suck it, followed by motioning for all of Hilton Shelter to boo him louder, it'd be better than that auburn gif.

If I find a decent one I'm going to pull the trigger on a Suzuki Samurai. Cheaper than a side by side and basically the same thing

You’re like the 50th person I’ve seen say this exact thing about a samurai and/or tracker.
