It's unbelievable how fast and much of that stuff ends up in your shoes. I will literally walk 10 feet on the field to do a game changer bump and then dump a pile of it out when i'm back in the stands.

I didn't mean to do that.  I am usually the information laggard, so I didn't think this would suprise the goEMAW parent population.

I just recalled reading an article specific to cancer cases in soccer goal keepers, and thought it was worth mentioning.

Need some opinions. Our awesome semi competitive team finally hit its end. I actually thought it would happen sooner, but it was an awesome run. Here's the thing though. All of our current players were basically invited to stay together and move to a true "competitive" team. This means more money, more practices, tournaments, etc. Lil SF is a "good" player, but is probably playing at a level higher than he should be. He's having a great year this year, but still hits toward the bottom and plays mostly outfield. He actually doesn't mind playing the outfield, but he also rotates. Basically all of the outfield rotates for the most part. Coach does a great job with playing time, but it's baseball and the best players play for the most part. I know not everyone will move on so most likely, the new kids that come up will probably be pretty good and move ahead of him potentially pushing him further down. I know all of the new coaches and it will be a great group i'm sure, but i'm just worried about all of the extra that comes with a truly competitive team and the potential of him sitting even more. I totally get it and have said that if he is one of your bottom players, you are on a decent team, but it still sucks to see your kid sit. The really shitty part is that it is basically do this or baseball is probably done for him. He doesn't have many other friends that play and I don't see him wanting to join a random team maybe down a level. I'm ultimately leaving the decision to him and he has said initially he wants to do it, but we have a bit to decide. Thoughts?

Yeah, that is a good decision point age. At that point playing rec isn’t really a way forward other than having fun (which rules). I’d suggest just asking him what he wants to do.

yeah, that's the plan. It just blows that basically the options are competitive or nothing for the most part. He would whip ass on a double A team, but I totally get not wanted to be with a bunch of kids he doesn't know. I know he's leaning towards the new team which is totally fine. I love watching, but they will have tournaments every weekend as opposed to the every other or so we have done in the past. That's a big commitment.

Are the tournaments mostly KC? Some of those AAA teams do crazy stuff like a new state every weekend.

I will be honest I don't know how you do tournaments every weekend.  I think we did 3 tournaments one summer, league, league tournament, fall ball.  Played maybe 45 games?

I coached a team after the boys were in high school... it was "rec" for all intents and purposes, but did a couple A level tournaments.  We picked up a couple kids who were burnt out on the highly competitive stuff, and just wanted to play. It was fun.

Even less talented levels can be competitive, approached seriously.

We play like 60 a summer and a tourney about 2/3 of weekends. We don’t go further than KC/Des Moines/Sioux Falls for travel. Usually 3 hotel stays a season for parents.

Ok so this is just for 2025. I have kept track of every youth sporting event I've been to as either a spectator, coach, or official so far since January 1. I am not counting practices. For watching the games, most of these are my kids but some are like varsity soccer/baseball/basketball games up at the school to watch friends kids etc.

As an official:
Basketball: 39 games
Baseball: 57 games

As a spectator
Swim Meets: 4
Track Meets: 4
Basketball Games: 19
Soccer Games: 18
Baseball Games: 7

That's 148 games/meets I've been to so far this year, and I don't go to every game or meet for each of my kids. I've missed plenty. It's absolute insanity. Between now and next Monday I will attend 2 swim meets, umpire 3 baseball games, and attend 4 or 5 basketball games.

Our "summer"

15 year old boy: swim or run every weekday 7 AM. Strength and conditioning 8:30-10:30. Quit Football and is doing CC, swim, and track for 10th grade next year. Weekly swim meet. We made it with this one. Outside of a pretty chill summer swim club all his sports are at school and therefore free.

13 year old girl: Club basketball practice 2 nights a week. Tourneys every other weekend including 2 out of town. Middle school running on Monday and Friday mornings at 7. Some open gym basketball at the high school I think a soccer clinic. She is the best athlete in the fam. Is thinking about trying out for 8th grade volleyball even though she's never played. I'm convinced she's make a B team or something if she tries. She doesn't love running and I think is looking for a way out of middle school cross country. In the fall she'll start up again on her club soccer team again and she moved up to the higher level team.

9 year old girl: swim in the morning for like 45 minutes and a soccer and basketball clinic sometime. Weekly swim meets. I'm anticipating this child being a theater kid and not doing a ton of sports in high school. Just doing rec level soccer/basketball next school year. I'll probably coach her soccer team.

6 year old boy: taking swim lessons and doing coach pitch baseball. Will probably join a first grade rec soccer team in the fall.

I need a nap.

The funny thing of it is that it seems like a ton, but my teenage kids still have hours and hours of free time. I'm pretty convinced during the teen years you need some anchors in your life to keep you on a good life rhythm.

Also all the kids except the youngest take piano lessons which also costs a lot. 13 year old might quit piano in August, we'll see.

This is where I am with the baseball decision. Right now, he has a spot on a good team with a good group of people and he is "busy" during the spring and summer. It's a crap ton of "busy", but what fills that gap at his age? Sure I could come up with stuff here and there, but that's not enough "structure" IMO. Going to try football in the fall so we will see how that goes. I'm hopeful it works out as I'd love for him to be in a fall/winter sport and get into the extra strength and agility training being on the football team will require. I could totally see a scenario where both of these flame out in a couple years though so it will be interesting. Small town sports were so much easier.

Also, you have too many kids

you think I'm not aware of the situation? Do you know how much they eat? This morning after all the swim/basketball/conditioning workouts I made 10 eggs, an entire pack of bacon, and I think 8 slices of toast and basically got to eat none of it. The teenagers 4th meal the crap out of my house. Ramen, sandwiches, cereal, whatever is in the fridge they eat it like they just got home from sea. The 15 year was eating all day during track season and lost weight. It's insane. If I consumed as much as he did I'd probably gain 20 pounds in a month.

Genesis, SE Boys Club or West Urban? Sorry for you if it is Genesis, a sea of artificial turf and concrete.
If there was a gif of nicname thwarting the attempted-flag-taker and then gesturing him to suck it, followed by motioning for all of Hilton Shelter to boo him louder, it'd be better than that auburn gif.

You guys, my daughter is about to turn 15 months old. What's my avenue? I'm looking for cheap.

Also, I'm REALLY hoping to get her into music instead of sports. For a lot of reasons. Any tips?
