This thread is having a big impact on my algorithm. Now seeing a constant stream of ads for how to get your kid to be a more confident hitter and how to help your daughter throw the softball 70mph by age 12 and devices to rehab your kid's arm soreness. I haven't had a kid playing any softball or baseball since before Covid.

Our coach finally relented and was like, "hey the kids have been asking and I'm cool if anyone wants to take the lead and set up walk up music for the boys". That was 3 weeks and like 13 games ago. lol.

I'm fine with it mostly, but I do despise the a hole parents that just step up and immediately start blaring giant speakers. some of these weirdos will have kids in the next game and just start cranking it while they warm up on the side and the current game before is still going.

I went to two days of the Big 10 tournament last weekend and walkup songs were a very enjoyable part of it. outside of GRANDPA blues who don't like them I don't see a single downside. I also tried to teach my kid to appreciate a non-rap walkup because one of the UCLA kids (we saw them play a couple) had Kings of Summer with the "Jumpin off the porch" start to his walkup. Was so summer and so pure. He wasn't going for it though.

I do enjoy it when a kid (probably their parents) pick a fun song. Last week a kid walked up to Dire Straits "Money for Nothing" and another had a random Eazy E song. It ruled and they were a fun team.

good news: daughter's team won the Kansas State Cup!
more good news: regional's are held in KC this year!

bad news: it's probably going to be hot af and the turf is likely to be an issue. daughter was already complaining about the heat Sunday and we finished before noon. turf gets super hot and starts to make your feet burn.

There is nothing worse. Unfortunately most of the good tournaments down here are now held at a turf complex.

Yeah, it's def hit and miss. Like, it's 400 degrees, but all the balls bounce perfectly and you don't get dirt caked on you and in your eyes when it's 100 on a dirt field with the wind blowing. We played last weekend and the outfield was barely mowed and the infield was in pretty bad shape on a couple fields. Giant holes in the batters boxes after a game or two was played. It's like the kids travelled back in time to when we played. Our third baseman had a rough time with the bad hops.

i'm sure it sucks for baseball, but at least those kids get to go in the dugout half the time. running constantly for 70-90 minutes with no reprieve is brutal, and i'm sure the other 15 states that are coming here are not ready for it either.

Pfft. SD, grow a pair and tell your kids it's not that hot. It's barely mid 70's in Omaha right now. Unless you're playing in Florida every day this is ridic.

First swim meet of the year tonight for lil girl sd. At the Jewish Community Center which has real nice facilities. So obviously first thing I do is scope out food and beverage rules online. NO outside food or drink. Not uncommon, let’s see what they are dishing up. Standard concession stand fare and hot food and their pool bar is the J Bar (their Logo is the YMCA logo but it’s a J) which serves until 8 PM. All good in the neighborhood. We arrive….J BAR CLOSED FOR THE SWIM EVENT!!!!! Going to have to raw dog this one. Brutal.

Any fear that your kids will get cancer having played their entire youth sports careers on field turf?

Ive seen a few stories where that claim was made by soccer players...

I think both boys played 1-2 high school football games on natural grass in 4 years. ODAC and Leavenworth. Those both may be turf now.

SOGO... highlight of my football career was playing at Moore Bowl in Topeka... a college field with nice grass! Whipped some Trojan ass that night, 28-0.

Same. Makes sense though. Can't imagine they aren't breathing in some bad stuff when after a game Lil SF comes off the field saying how hot his feet are from standing on the 400 degree rubber turf.

All of our home fields are grass/dirt thankfully. We only play one team regularly whose home field is turf. It’s one of those POS multi sport complexes they play all sports on. Hate it.

Ha, those are great. It's really awesome when they don't have the temp fence up so when anyone barrels a gapper they can basically make it home before the outfielder even reaches the ball.
