Held off as long as I could with kid #2 but jumping into club soccer this year. She made a team that is a year older than her which was pretty cool. Also doing summer basketball so that's my life.

CF3 jr. (my oldest) is going into 9th grade. He has never been a great athlete but is very disciplined. Every day now he is running at 7 am with cross country, doing football at 830, then doing weights at 930. So he's gonna be in pretty good shape by August. He's never played tackle football but wants to try so I'm like go for it.

Me being the gluten for punishment that I am will be continuing to umpire 3-4 times a week at Homefield and Creekside.

Nicname jr is going to be a freshman as well. He “likes” sports, but has never “worked” particularly hard at them, which is actually healthy imo for kids and sports. He’s not like a total jock or anything. I say this to preface that he wants to do fball, bball and baseball in hs.

and OMG they put these kids thru the ringer in the summer!

This is his “schedule” for the summer.

S&C 6:30a-8:30a M-Thu
Bball workouts M, Tue, Thu 9a-10:30a
Bball games - DHs Tue evenings in June
Club baseball - Practice Tue, Thu 6-8, tournaments every other weekend, 3 in July. Sometimes we have practice games/scrimmages/games on Tue/Wed or Thu but rare.

I honestly feel bad for the kids that want to play 2-3 sports. Goodbye summer.

I think part of it is they hired a new fball, bball and baseball coach this spring and prob had a hard time getting coordinated. The longtime hs baseball coach just stepped down at end of season.

You guys are making me want to play baseball, again. But I know all my bones would fall apart.

Beer league softball is the answer (Non competitive leagues only). I played for about 10 years but now only sub in about once or twice a month, usually in the spring since its hot as F once you get into summer. Doubleheaders out at Mid America in the middle of the week so you play at 6/7 or 8/9...The 8/9 games suck since you don't get home until 1030ish at the earliest.

I straight up mash on our softball team. They usually put someone outside the outfield fence so we don’t delay the game too much by not having someone already out there.

Saw this thread titled “North Carolina bans public high school kids from accepting NIL,” and the ensuing discussion, and wanted to share here to get opinions and maybe a better understanding. We’ve had semi-related conversations itt, so felt it was the right place to post.

https://www.on3.com/boards/threads/north-carolina-bans-public-school-kids-from-accepting-nil.1435321/

My comment in the thread is basically how I feel about it in my limited understanding.

I'm not going to read the on3 article, but minors can't enter into enforceable contracts, in general. However, parents can do so on their behalf, so it sounds like an affront on parental rights.

A team in our weekend tournament got busted twice for the coach telling kids to untie their shoes so he could go out and tie them to delay the game and run time so another inning wouldn't start. Some baseball people are insane.

The best is when a kid is playing on the opposing team and clearly wasn't on the roster submitted to the tournament.

whoa, wait a minute.  we talking dongs in here?

she’s a beaut, clark.

we picked up hype fire drop 8 two weeks ago based upon the irrefutable facts posted by our experts in this very thread.

it’s funny how much it intimidates the other team when we pull the disco stick out.

The tournament I am working this weekend costs $1895/team to play in (15u). Then you have to book your hotel through the tournament partners. Then the parents have to pay $35 to watch their kid play. People from all over. And games go WEDNESDAY through SUNDAY if you keep winning.

I don't know how people do it man. Bonkers.

Not directed at anyone with a kid in club sports (we just joined club soccer) but this is not sustainable.

Umpire cost inflation is ruining the sport

I think the high end stuff is here to stay. Travel sports are like the modern day version of country club memberships.

Assume this is a showcase/scout event? If so parents are paying for their kid to be seen by what they believe are scouts for college. It is 100% a racket.

They take about 30% of that hotel revenue too, which jacks up the price

Congrats.

My nephew had his last tournament and they got waxed 2 out of 3 games in pool play.  The one team they beat is their cross-town rival that poached some of their better players though so eff it, it was a great weekend.

Nice, our boys played great all weekend and pretty much kicked the absolute crap out of everyone. One odd thing I learned was that Wichita teams love to bunt. We were winning like 9-1 and they still were bunting guys over. It was the most bunts we saw all year in like 2 games against teams from there.

Maybe. It's through PBR. Not really paying attention but I didn't see the place swarming with college coaches. Yesterday I was working the quarterfinals and the parents and coaches of the team that lost were legit relieved. I bet the kids were too.
