People talk in terms of how views on covid became politicized. As if they could have been different under different circumstances. To me, they're mostly just a subset of progressive vs. conservative views based on degree of giving a crap vs. not giving a crap about other people.

Yeah we established this just last week! (And really long before that). Of course someone in rural Michigan doesn't care about Covid. Congrats guy for getting the clicks for sharing that fact on the Atlantic.

It really sucks and I hate for you to be the target of it but Kansans do not care if their community is ravaged by covid and their health care professionals are both overworked and treated like crap. They made their choice long ago and are only more committed.

I don't really care if they care because every restaurant or large event I go into requires a vax card and masks are required on the subway. I'm sure the MAGA's in red states don't care if you care about covid. And I'm guessing the majority of non-maga's in red-states are going maskless everywhere and bars and events with unvaccinated folks because they don't care THAT much. Which is fine.

Yeah, non-MAGAs in red states aren't wearing masks. They aren't very effective when you are the only one wearing one. And they also aren't getting sick at a very high rate. If you don't want your community to be ravaged by COVID with overrun hospitals, the only thing you really need to do is get vaccinated and stay boosted. Restaurants can enforce that or whatever, but I don't really care if is someone who refuses to practice basic hygiene when everyone around him is asking him to do so ends up getting sick and dying.

Sure, but you can't get those in areas where MAGAs are the majority. All you can do is sit back and watch them slowly die off. Sometimes people have a family member end up going to the hospital or dying and then they decide it might be a good idea to get vaccinated.

I believe the ONLY thing that will actually move the needle, outside of an apocalyptical mutation, is money. I expect more of the same until insurance providers stop covering covid care for unvaccinated, employers stop paying sick leave for unvaxxed, and employers requiring vaccinations as a condition of employment.

I don't think the Biden administration has a great record on COVID because their messaging has been poor and they should've canned Fauci.  But the rollout of vaccines and the vaccine mandates have been overall a huge success. The problem is a lot of people just won't participate, and are actually fighting tooth and nail on every front any mitigation or vaccination efforts.
