my company just updated our employee management system with a new tab to update your vaccination status. doesn't require any proof though and one of the options is "prefer not to answer"

 :dubious:
Our prefer not to answerers get to wear masks at all times in the office. It’s the same as answering no.
:adios:

I'm sick of COVID. I want it to be over.

it's never going to be over, but (in the united states), it's time to let it just be normal.  just another one of the endemic respiratory diseases that sometimes kills a few people but really not very often at all and we mostly don't think about it.

Ya, deaths are low and should remain low because the olds got the vaccine. I read on Axios, I think, that 1/5000 at the age of 30 die and 1/1,500 or 1/3,000 die at the age of 40 with it. I do feel bad for the immune deficient and I'm not sure what to do for them.

New office National policy: if you’re not fully vaccinated, don’t come in. If you are fully vaccinated, up to you.

Plus I think hospitals have figured out to flex capacity plus the sorta high vaccination rates should reduce the need to flex. New York in March and April 2020 was seriously scary crap but that isn't happening again

After being at the CWS and in a packed Vegas I'm over COVID. I followed all the guidelines and got a shot as soon as I could, I drove 2 hours for my first one. If you could get a shot and willingly haven't I do not care anymore. If I need a 3rd shot I will willingly get one, I will do my part but I am completely over it having any impact on my life.

I'm also done thinking about COVID in my non-work life but since I work in healthcare it will continue to impact me as long as people keep getting sick. I think staffing is still broken in a lot of hospitals. I don't think they can flex to the extent that they did last year. Salina Regional is stopping elective procedures [hopefully just a temporary situation]:

Quote
Salina Regional Health Center currently has a census of 22 COVID patients. This is up from 2 weeks ago when the COVID census was only 5 patients! We are seeing significant increases in COVID testing as well as in positive test results. We are also seeing some breakthrough infections in those who are fully vaccinated or who have had previous infection, but the majority of infections are in unvaccinated people.

Unfortunately, SRHC has made the decision to postpone non-urgent, non-emergent elective procedures starting Wednesday through the rest of this week and we are also putting a hold on scheduling any for next week while we assess those numbers. We will continue to assess the situation daily. Please feel free to reach out to Dr ------ with any clinical questions or concerns you may have. Dr. ---- can be contacted at xxx-xxx-xxxx. As always, our administration team is meeting regularly and working diligently to maintain the safety of our employees and patients. We HAVE and WILL keep SRHC a safe place for our patients and region.

I will continue to update you on a regular basis and if you have any additional questions please do not hesitate to contact me.

Yeah I hear you but I also don't think many hospitals will need to flex to the extent they did last year. But yes the labor situation is tough.

And aren't people in Salina kinda used to driving to Wichita and KC for electives? (Legitimately don't know this)

They have a pretty broad range of specialists there. You can get coronary bypass surgery there, they have two neurosurgeons, several general surgeons, several orthos. Most elective and even emergent surgeries that people need can be done there. Most pediatric specialty care would need to be in ICT or at Children's in Kansas City. Many people could live their whole lives and get a very high level of medical for all of their needs in Salina.

Still doing electives here but it's "one in, one out" with beds. Pretty tight if things were to spike further

For the mandates that are starting 8.2, when will the be lifted?  Over/under?

I am saying end of September but am prepared for Thanksgiving or beyond.
