Stop housepartying

https://www.washingtonpost.com/health/2020/11/12/covid-social-gatherings/

pretty sad anecdote. I've definitely been seeing more pressure from a friend to just move our patio drink sessions inside.

Quote
Amber Calderon now knows she did that in October. The 24-year-old was excited to see some of her relatives for the first time in months at her nephew’s birthday party — and she felt safe. The Conroe, Tex., resident knew her relatives wore masks and socially distanced in their day-to-day lives, she said, so she “trusted everyone.”

About 25 people attended the party at a house, and Calderon said just one person wore a mask — her 81-year-old grandmother. Calderon started to feel ill a few days later, and she tested positive for the coronavirus on Oct. 20. Ten other people who were there also got sick, she said, including her grandmother.

“When I tested positive, I was mad at the situation I put myself in,” Calderon said. “I should’ve never attended that party that day. None of us should have. I knew better.”

I host a friends christmas event every year.  Super packed (oppo fanningbrag for having small condo).  Knew back in September no way I was doing it this year.  Getting pressure from friends to have it and "just tell everybody to quarantine before"  Eff that.  I know nobody will quarantine to the level needed, no way I'm hosting a super spreader event.

The friend hosting NYE every year says they are going ahead with it just smaller number.  Without me my man.    :shakesfist:

The economic calamity from such orders will be on an order of magnitude never before seen in this country, and the world.

and like everybody said, failure in the spring will lead to even worse "economic fallout" come fall/winter.  Congrats.  Your dude led is right down that path.

LOL, just admit that you actually believe ChiCom Joe when he says he's going to stop the virus.  When in reality the only thing that's going to stop the virus slightly and temporarily is a lockdown.   The virus will be right back in full force as soon as the lockdown is over with, as has been proven repeatedly in places like Europe and parts of the United States as well as in other parts of the world.   You can point to a few countries, but life in those countries is NOT back to normal and will not be back to "normal" until there's a vaccine.

It's not a zero sum game, dummy.    Economic fallout is the choice of the control freaks like you.

With all this advance notice, can't party'rs and gather'rs hook up their devices to their large TV's and have a unique 2020-style event where you can do your stuff with your own household normally and have all your friends' and family's large heads on the wall doing the same?

That is what we did in spring lockdown and the plan for upcoming months and Christmas party.  I tend to get super pak'd during them.

Maybe I don't get the right marketing, but it's strange that tech companies aren't inundating us with ads for apps and devices to help people with this concept.  That ad with the dad teaching his adult daughter via facebook or whatever how to cook something for her date was on every commercial break for a year, and now when that would be really helpful, nothing.

Going to spend Thanksgiving with the in-laws!  Just wife and I, her sister/bro-in-law/newborn and wife’s parents. Wife and I are the least at risk and most cautious of the group, so we aren’t likely to be increasing the risk for the others who should be more worried. Still, it sure seems dumb!

No way a nationwide 4-6 week lockdown would happen and I don't think it should.  I do think more state/local governments should be more flexible like Cali / SF have been.  Make changes based on numbers

yeah won't happen but I like that they're including money for shutting down as part of it. And as always, a general term of "lockdown" isn't very useful. The devil's in the details.

Boulder's got an interesting tool to help restaurants.  The city partnered with a local delivery app to take care of the fees.  I would like to see more of this.

Yeah they don't get into that other than pointing out it would need to be a lot more strict and uniform than the spring.  Wasted words honestly.

If you're going to go to a family gathering, sit in enclosed rooms,  not wear masks, sit around in tight groups, not socially distance, and not have consistent air exchange in the room.   Then yes, it is very dumb.
