If the 90% effective rate is for real, then by my calculations if 50% of Americans get the vaccine then it would be equivalent to 45% of Americans being permanently quarantined (yet still fully contributing to the economy). So likely still many deaths but no overcrowded hospitals and little need for further mitigation measures. Basically just turns a regular flu season into a bad one?

I've had multiple conversations with MDs about my family and monitoring them for these symptoms. it's scary as crap.

last parent got to go home from the hospital yesterday after two full months in, most in Covid ICU. still on a lot of oxygen and may always be strapped to a tank unfortunately. very grateful to be where we are though. we were 99% sure we were losing them on two separate occasions. parents are 64 and 66 with no co-morbidities and otherwise healthy. it's a very scary disease.
