It's gE, not a doctoral dissertation.  I do appreciate being held to a higher standard than Trump's daily briefings though.
Like I told bucket, don't let me stop you from pulling bullshit claims out of your ass based on stuff you don't know anything about.  By all means, proceed with the circlejerk.

You already told us you agree with it's being mishandled....so we'll make the circle just a bit larger for you!  It's pretty easy to look at other countries handling of this and feel like we're falling short.  If you want to cling to the per capita death numbers not being the worst, like I said, might want to wait until the entire story is told on this.  We've got some pretty good leading indicators that we're blowing this.

To say it's been "mishandled" does not mean we're doing the worst in the world, or even worse than other first world peers.  Some are doing better, some are doing worse.  But I understand that that doesn't quite have the same satisfactory umph has "we're doing by far the worst in the world."

The daily briefings have been suspended... Whatever will they jerk off to now?

Poor Trump can't catch a break.  His swift and decisive actions would have been much more effective but we got stuck with the bad strains while other countries only had to deal with the pud strains.

Isn't that what Fauci paid the $3.7M for?  If we are gonna fund the development of this crap, we better by God get our money's worth.

Surely they didn't take our money and send us the pud strains...

There is absolutely no evidence that he is not.

That's the exact same amount of evidence that he is.

i haven't seen many virologists or epidemiologists taking the different strains have different functionality hypothesis very seriously.  it also doesn't really fit the available data on where severe outbreaks have occurred and where they haven't.

Li’s team detected more than 30 mutations. Among them 19 mutations – or about 60 per cent – were new.

They found some of these mutations could lead to functional changes in the virus’ spike protein, a unique structure over the viral envelope enabling the coronavirus to bind with human cells. Computer simulation predicted that these mutations would increase its infectivity.

To verify the theory, Li and colleagues infected cells with strains carrying different mutations. The most aggressive strains could generate 270 times as much viral load as the weakest type. These strains also killed the cells the fastest.

https://www.msn.com/en-au/news/coronavirus/how-china-muzzled-its-bat-woman-beijing-authorities-hushed-up-the-findings-of-a-scientist-who-unlocked-the-genetic-make-up-of-the-coronavirus-within-days-of-the-outbreak-which-is-vital-for-tests-and-vaccines/ar-BB12wLOS

A Chinese scientist who is the one of the world's leading experts on coronaviruses was 'muzzled' after unravelling the genetic composition of the new disease, which is crucial for developing diagnostic tests and vaccines.

The revelation will fuel fresh concerns over China's cover-up of the pandemic after it erupted in the city of Wuhan. Critics argue that Communist Party chiefs frustrated efforts to contain the outbreak before it exploded around the world.

At the centre of the new claims is Shi Zhengli, known as China's 'Bat Woman' after years spent on difficult virus-hunting expeditions in dank caves that have led to a series of important scientific discoveries
.

Eight days later, a team led by a professor in Shanghai who received samples from an infected patient, published a genome sequence on an open-access platform.

His laboratory was closed for 'rectification' two days later.

(Paywall) https://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/news/nsw/coronavirus-australia-chinese-scientists-linked-to-virus-probe-studied-live-bats-in-australia/news-story/702b1f91ee7a2e69cbc2aff821d8f857

It can be revealed that Zhou — the head of the Bat Virus Infection and Immunity Project at the Wuhan Institute of Virology — spent three years at the bio-containment facility, Australian Animal Health Laboratory between 2011 and 2014, where he was sent by China to complete his doctorate.

During this time, Zhou arranged for wild-caught bats to be transported alive by air from Queensland to the Australian Animal Health Laboratory in Victoria where they were euthanised for dissection and studied for deadly viruses.

His work was funded jointly by the CSIRO and the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

Peng Zhou, part of the Batman and Batwoman team in China.

Batwoman:

https://www.nature.com/news/engineered-bat-virus-stirs-debate-over-risky-research-1.18787

It examined bat immunology and the role of interferons and how “bats are rich reservoirs for emerging viruses, including many that are highly pathogenic to humans and other mammals” and “many of which cause significant morbidity and mortality in humans and other mammals.”

Another relatively low death day (1163).  Mondays are always low, but this is significantly lower than the other mondays in April.  Good news.

Tuesdays are always high.  Every tuesday has been a new high in deaths reported, including last Tuesday, when more than 2500 deaths were reported.  Let's hope that streak comes to an end tomorrow.
