961 cases and 4 deaths seem to be odd, to say the least. The very first conspiracy theory about coronavirus was that it was created by the Chinese government to kill all the Hong Kong protesters.

I hope when we look at the lowered number of total deaths and pollution will make big companies reconsider letting employees work from home if it's possible.

I think that there is a large portion of the population that has already had this crap.  I'm pretty sure I had it due to a fever but no nausea and puking like the normal flu.  Several of the guys I work with feel that same as they had a pretty rough "cold" or "flu" for a week or so and then it ran it's course. I had this exact convo with Gooch a few days ago.

It's bizarre these WH people are only tweeting this stuff. Seems like a major story that should be explained in more detail?

My only question is why weren’t we overcrowding hospitals then? I don’t remember any kind of spike then? Reason being the now false thing that young people are immune/can’t die from it.

if there was a way to bet on how many people think they've had it vs how many people have actually had it, i could make a fortune.

TBH....I haven't heard a bunch of accounts about hospitals being overrun in our area or outside of the major hotspots.  I haven't been keeping totally up to date with reports, but around here there are plenty of beds/ICU beds available.  I'm crossing my fingers that our superior KS genes told this virus to eff off.

Well hopefully it stays that way. We as a state have been very proactive dealing with this. I hope just because the stupid reversal on religious gathering was overturned today, people stay at home. We’ll see, but I worry there are a lot of MAGA’s that will contribute to the spread by gathering for Easter this weekend.

I think most of the churches will stay closed/online only.  There may be a couple who try some stuff, but I don't think it will be widespread. The great thing on our end is I will be able to enjoy a Bloody Mary while watching Easter Sunday service on TV and preparing to gorge myself on smoked ham, bacon green beans, and deviled eggs.

FWIW I don't think there is herd immunity here. I wouldn't be surprised if it was most places quite a bit earlier than we've thought, though

Me neither on the herd immunity.  I just think it hits some people harder than others.  Some people will think they have a really shitty cold and others that are more susceptible to illness will have a much worse time with it.  I do firmly believe that it was in the US quite a bit earlier than most people think it was though.

estimates of r for around the world.  note, however, that the estimates are just through 3-19.

estimates the % of cases in various countries that have been detected from the mortality rate (1.4%).  based on their estimate and the current # of confirmed cases, that would put the us at 3.6 m cases.  wide confidence intervals, though.

I'm not political enough to really comprehend the "this is the states job, not federal" thinking.  Is it typically one political party that is more "states rights" or whatever or is that a sect that crosses the traditional political parties?

Seems to me in times of crisis you'd want one entity (USA govt) handling all of the buying/logistics and getting it to the organizations in need, not telling states to fend for themselves.  On the other hand, I like the idea of states having the power to make moves for the health of their people and not have to wait on the federal government to make one sweeping move like that.

This seems to be unfolding this way as a way to spread the blame versus Trump's admin taking the brunt of the ire for a horrible plan/execution to this whole thing.

Regardless of your views of federalism, the US government could be doing a ton more to help here.

They could be pouring in a ton more resources to make testing more widely available.

They could be pursuing additional economic relief for small businesses and workers.

They could be doing a better job of securing PPE for medical workers everywhere instead of encouraging the states to get in these bidding wars.

It’s just a lot of things that have nothing to do with infringing states’ rights.

I mean one example of something the federal government should do is to continue funding testing
