On Friday, researchers announced they cut short a study testing anti-malaria drug chloroquine as a potential treatment for Covid-19 after some patients developed irregular heartbeats and nearly two dozen died after taking doses daily.

In the bad news/Trump got dunked on vein tho.  Between this and injecting disinfectant it's been a rough week for pudding brains
Trump was hyping up Remdesivir back in March too.  He's found like 10 cures for this thing already.

Perhaps “dose” was a better term...  :dunno:

There's just too much misdirection and mischaracterization in this single sentence for me to even break it all down. Certainly too much to outweigh my effort explaining it, for all the good that would do.

One hundred bodies have been found in two unrefrigerated trucks outside of a Brooklyn, New York, funeral home after neighbors complained about a stench from bodies being stored in trailers.

"The Department has been notified of storage issues of decedents and alternate arrangements are being made by the funeral home," the New York State Health Department said in a statement provided to ABC News.

Funeral directors are required to store decedents awaiting burial or other final disposition in appropriate conditions and follow their routine infection prevention and control precautions.

The funeral home director at Andrew T. Cleckley Funeral Services on Utica Avenue in the Flatlands section told New York ABC station WABC they ran out of places to store the bodies.

The state health department will issue a summons for improper storage.

That's pie-in-the-sky and incredibly too simplistic, in the case of America anyway.

Yes, the other things we're litigating are making sure we can test somebody, anybody. CQ is like 15th on the list of things we would need.

To answer rusty's question  hell no, Americans wouldn't tolerate anything mandated.

As I type this I'm watching a bunch of salon owners nationwide throwing temper tantrums about temporary distancing measures, SALON OWNERS! One lady from North Carolina says, "I just don't like nobody telling me what to do." Another lady in Texas cartoonishly tearing up a restraining order. A third salon owner says "Yes, my employees are scared, and they should be." Not only does the history and structure of our country not allow us to do CQ successfully, but we are a society that encourages selfishness, under the guise of "independent spirit."

if america wants to pretend that the only choices are letting 2 million people die or an indefinite, economically disastrous shutdown (or yoyoing back and forth between the two), it can.  but those are not the only choices.  there are other countries that have figured this out.

china controlled the virus after they already had an outbreak raging uncontrolled.  this was back when no one had any information about the virus and there were no reliable tests.  they did it using contact tracing and centralized quarantining. testing is important, but it's not the only tool available and evidence suggests it's not even the most important tool.

like, i don't know how you can ignore this.

if america refuses to mandate quarantining, voluntary quarantining is certainly better than no quarantining, and i think you would get pretty high rates of compliance.  payment can be a part of that.

i have seen some suggestion that because children have milder symptoms, they may be less infectious.  although i don't think viral load is synonymous with infectiousness, this would not support that suggestion.

I would think people who are constantly coughing would be more infectious than those that aren’t, but maybe we don’t have fancy graphs for that.

A voluntary centralized quarantine seems like a good option. Anything else is pretty laughable to anyone who has taken a US History class.

I think it’s worth emphasizing that Spanish Flu killed an estimated 675k in the US (and 50 million worldwide) and yet it was a barely a footnote in history until now. We are willing to tolerate a tremendous loss of life due to illness.

Are you suggesting states/federal govt set up hotels for voluntary quarantine outside of the home for those who don't live alone and also provide compensation for that stay (lost wages). That seems reasonable imo.

it's not my idea, but yes, i'm saying it would be better than not doing any quarantining.

regarding the comment that mandatory quarantining is laughable based on us history - quarantines have been used since the founding of the country in the united states.

I’m embarrassed by what’s become of our country. But at least they’ve convinced the idiots to wear masks so it’s easier to spot who’s not a rough ridin' moron.

Is the suggestion that mandatory quarantining something we should have been doing? Don't you need to be able to test before you can quarantine the sick? Haven't we had major issues with testing?

You don't need testing, you only need symptoms. Testing helps but I think it's pretty ridiculous to think you'll catch and stop asymptomatic cases from spreading the virus through testing rather than quarantining close contacts of symptomatic cases.

Other than the racist ones like immigrants and Japanese internment I’m not sure what you’re referencing.

In that case, we'd be relying on symptomatic people voluntarily coming forward? People will volunteer to be manatorily quarantined but will not volunteer to self quarantine?

Sorry to be one of those people asking questions without reading, but that was an ugly looking twitter thread.
