I can't believe I haven't gotten this thing yet. Everyone in my household has had it except me and my pops.
Then 11-yo Nicname Jr (unvaxxed) got it and had mild symptoms for several days in October.
Then 6-month old Baby Nicname got it earlier this month, which was quite scary, but pulled thru like a champ. Didn't even lose weight.
Mrs. Nicname (vaxxed) got it from Baby Nicname, which we knew would happen, and pulled thru like a total boss. Had mild symptoms for 2-3 days.
I can count at least two occasions since the whole thing began where I had what I thought were mild symptoms or lack of sleep/dehydration. One of these occurrences was when Nicname Jr had it; negative test. One was in March of 2020 I think. Very early on. Didn't get tested, but was better after an evening of worry.
My dad has also managed to avoid it, while begrudgingly taking as little precaution as possible. This includes getting vaxxed at much convincing from me. He's also a huge retardo-con/evangelical type, who gets his news from Facebook and other very reliable sources.
My mom and her husband (he's hardcore MAGA, she does whatever he does), both got it last thanksgiving time and were unvaxxed (still are), and beat it like champs. Lost taste and smell for a bit.
My brother's entire family has avoided it. They're a bizarre case of anti-covid vaxxers, one being an RN and the other being a well-respected (former) Nursing Home Administrator. They do/did all the non-vax precautions to the t. I don't get it.
No one's probably interested in reading all this but I figured I'd share.
Mods: move to the do you know anyone with covid thread if necessary.
Nicname would you be willing to share the progression of COVID that your 6 month old experienced? I have a 5 month old that im preparing to have every virus under the sun that babies get including covid.
We suspected he might have been infected before he ever showed any symptoms, because his teenage cousin had been watching him two days prior, and then tested positive the next day. A day later he became increasingly fussy, and Mrs Nicname took him to get tested. By the end of that day he'd developed a slight cough. He developed a decent fever for a day or two early on as well. We got the positive test result the following morning, I believe.
The doctor told us all we could really do is keep him hydrated, breast feed him a lot (wife is vaxxed, so maybe antibodies?), and monitor his breathing, dry diapers, etc. They said to bring him in if things got worse/scary.
Over the next couple of days his cough got progressively more intense, then he started wheezing, and had a lot of mucous buildup in his nose/throat. At one point she was trying to breast feed him and the mucous buildup was so bad he started choking. She tells me she turned him upside-down and performed some type of move that got him to stop choking.
I should add he was in relatively good spirits most of the time during the day when not coughing. Still, that was enough and we took him in the next day. I was worried before, but now scared shitless, truly trying to prepare myself for the fact he might not be around in a week or two.
Luckily the testing and hospital visit were encouraging. His oxygen level was keeping at 98% and they told us the wheezing and mucous issues were upper-respiratory, which is a big deal apparently.
After the hospital his cough slowly weakened, the wheezing went away and he pretty quickly got back to normal. He was off quarantine on schedule 10-days after diagnosis.
I'm very proud of him.
