Huge surprise.   Big Pharma (non-medical) executives pushing the vaccine booster narrative hard.

People like Obama's CDC guy and the WHO saying there's no substantial evidence as of yet that indicates a vaccine booster is needed.

Additional concern is that Big Pharma's first world push for boosters will chew up supplies for 3rd world vaccines.

I mean it can be fun to laugh about antivaxxers but dammit they are hurting real actual people. Just got done talking to a woman this morning who hasn't gotten vaccine because she has been told that it hasn't been studied enough. Meanwhile people who have passed up vaccine are showing up in the hospital with COVID. Lies about the vaccine are hurting and killing real people.

Did you shun or mock her, and/or encourage her toward further risky behavior that will hurt/kill her and those of her ilk?

I opted against the shun / mock approach. Discussed with her that I've gotten the vaccine, that I encouraged my family / friends to get the vaccine and that I believe the balance of risks / benefits vis a vis the vaccine is overwhelmingly in favor of getting vaccine. Discussed with her that I would be very sad if she got sick / died from a vaccine-preventable disease at this stage in the game. (acutally I've had this conversation x 2 already this morning). My anger and contempt is less toward the average vaccine-hesitant person on the street and more toward influencers and people in the media like Tucker who peddle this crap just for the sake of ratings and $$$.

Any of that work?

I think I convinced a person to get vaccinated this morning by using the above approach. I have to say that it would be faster if 100,000,000 people could all just watch the same PSA and choose to get vaccinated.

yeah, seems pretty unlikely.  seems like the sort of "every story must have a moral" thinking that causes humans to invent gods and demons to explain natural phenomena.

Why do you think it is unlikely?  Wuhan lab studies bat coronavirus, bat coronavirus comes out of Wuhan, no caves or bats for hundreds of miles.  Wet market? Just random? Nothing else seems as likely.

I mean, I think people are saying the lab escape theory is much more straightforward than China's theory of pangolin>bat>human. In that sense, it's China's explanation that would b Rube Goldbergeque, but w/e. I don't need to pick a horse, here.

I just presented some circumstantial evidence. I don’t know what your burden of proof is, but there are plenty of people in prison for the equivalent of what I laid out.

i haven't kept up on all of this, but i think that the pangolin hypothesis has not been supported, but there's a good reason why people were initially throwing it around - zoonotic events frequently involve an intermediate host that facilitates the disease organism adapting an ability to infect additional species beyond the normal host species.

as it turns out, the coronavirus involved in covid 19 can infect a ton of mammalian species including numerous domestic species, so the number of (afaik pretty much untested and maybe untestable) avenues from bat to human seems to me to be very large.

I think what’s important is China discovered it and suppressed the crap out of it to the extent of coercing WHO into lying about it.   I’m not sure the US under Trump would have benefited from any advanced warning but the rest of the world certainly would have.
