Would you miss Christmas if there was a 5% chance of infection? 1%? 0.01%?

yes; not sure, probably; no.

Peggy Pos: my entire family outside of myself, wife, and kids are probably now immune.

Nancy Neg: some of that family may not be out of the hospital for the holidays.

how are your parents doing, steve dave?

what do you think of just having Christmas in June or whenever everyone's chipped? Just do exactly what you would normally do six months later. Jesus wasn't really born on December 25, you know.

i don't think it would work well, but that might be what we go with.

IDEA: to help promote people doing this, the NBA should soon put out a tentative 2020-21 schedule that isn't starting until January/February 2021 like expected and declares some time in March/April to be its annual Christmas big games.

And this would make sense, as it was the NBA that informed america this COVID thing was a big deal to begin with.

I'm sure you have your reasons but that seems like it is feasible in June or July.

I was picturing you having snowman building contests and hot cocoa sleigh rides and venturing out into the woods to chop down the family christmas tree and watching Hallmark movies together

we had a massive croatia/europe trip planned for my wife's fortieth birthday this year (which obviously didn't happen)and she jokingly said "This one's cancelled, I'm having it next year" so I'm going to throw her an over-the-top local 39th birthday and tell all her friends and family to tell her happy 39th birthday and get those big as 3 and 9 balloons and I think it'll be fun and then god willing we'll do the big 40th stuff next year.

Getting together and having a tree and presents and turkey and christmas sweaters in like rough ridin' August sounds hilarious/fun/memorable. I might actually try to do this myself.

the principle impediment would be convincing my father to participate outside of the christmas season.  he barely tolerates us as is.

that sounds great.  i've cancelled greece on my wife twice, so expectations are undoubtedly being raised.

if we did the christmas in july thing, i'd argue strenously for doing it in argentina or chile, but that'd make my father even less likely to agree.

People in rural Kansas don't give a crap. Go to church, go to restaurants, don't wear masks or really change their lives at all. I bet people in Norton still refuse to wear masks and I bet there will be more nursing home outbreaks in Kansas.

and the way it happened almost has to be one or multiple asymptomatic staff followed by it spreading through the community. I mean you aren't keeping those seniors off each other.

Coming back from SD stopped for dinner at a brewery in north platte I think it was. We sat outside but had to walk through inside to leave and the place was jammed packed like you couldn't even walk through without people moving their chairs to let you by. Freaked us out.
