I just realized that my boss took it harder than I did. Like that even Steven Seinfeld where the girl breaks up with Jerry and he's like, "okay.  :)"

Sounds like a good boss.

There isn't a much worse action in business than firing or laying off someone. It feels terrible.

Yes. Even when they aren't very good at their jobs!

Do you think they figured out you were dual employed?
I think it’s safe to say that having witlessly employed at least one person with a full time job, they probably were prone to hiring more help than they needed.

Heard some gossip about the old job.

Background: owner/CEO has a tendency to replace basically the entire leadership team every several years. He's like ADHD. Current leadership team has been in place 1-2 years. Current COO talked owner/CEO into replacing the finance VP for the first time in like 17 years. This old finance VP used to cut checks with company money to the owner/CEO for his own personal use. COO hired new finance VP.

Gossip from my friend on finance team: owner/CEO has been asking new finance VP for money. New finance VP does not comply. Owner/CEO approached my friend about new VP, basically asks how things are working out. Two days later, friend gets a text from the old finance VP, who friend hasn't heard from since they left the company. Friend days there's no way that's a coincidence.

Are we in store for yet another overhaul of the leadership team in the not too distant future?

Also, current leadership team has knives out for D2. (Seriously. This again.) Can he outlast them!? Lol.

History says yes on both.

If history is any indication, this ends with D2 as owner/CEO.

New org chart day at old job! 5th in 5 years.

Somehow, I still "report" to D2.

Heard a rumor that I may be officially reporting to someone who is not D2 soon.

My office is going "hybrid" which for me means I go in like two Thursdays per month. Also means that I see more of D2.

First day I went in, D2 was telling everyone about maybe getting a side job at Trader Joe's. This struck me as part of a SUPER pathetic attempt to ask for a raise. Second time I went in, he had applied and was touting $19/hour and 20% discount. I think he's really doing it!

Sorry for the late reply, but I couldn't help but chuckle as I read through your job stories. It's always amusing to hear about the unique dynamics and personalities in different workplaces. On a more serious note, if you're aiming for that desired position or looking to advance in your career, I'd like to suggest not forgetting about the importance of Exam Preparation. Building up your knowledge and skills can make a significant difference when it comes to reaching your professional goals. So, while enjoying the anecdotes, let's also keep an eye on personal growth and development. Best of luck on your journey!

D2 is going on vacation for two weeks in July. There's been a HUGE push from the top for him to document everything he does and train others so that we don't miss a beat while he's out. It's something he's always been reluctant to do in the past presumably for job security. One of his tasks fell to me. He's been saying things like, "yeah, I keep telling them that I really don't mind doing this every day while I'm out, but they just INSIST that everyone should be able to have a work free vacation."

I'm guessing they're going to tell him not to come back after his PTO.

It's not paranoia if they're actually after him.

They should fire him before the vacation to ruin it

I've been out for the past week and a half. This week is the week that D2 was supposed to start his PTO. Except he didn't because his boss, who definitely wants to fire him, didn't approve his request. I don't know why. One possibility is that D2 didn't want to train other people on his crap (again, for job security reasons) and so his boss was like, "okay, then, no PTO."

If that's not crazy enough, D2 went to the ER last Wednesday, was admitted, and wasn't released until Sunday night. Last update he gave his boss about that was like Thursday of last week. She texted him on Monday morning in order to confirm he was working that day. After he'd been in the hospital! On the day he was supposed to start his PTO that she refused to approve! Holy crap!

Was just in a meeting with D2's boss. She asked me if I'd heard from him and said, "remember that there are two sides.
...
...
I think he's in Florida" and then rolls her eyes.

D2 has been fired. For someone who has had people wanting to fire him at least since I started working there in 2017, he put up a good fight and lasted a hell of a long time.
