Unless people get better at shooting super long 3's a wider court doesn't seem to do much. Maybe it'd be easier to pass into the corners, idunno

And Wade would have more space to actually run the offense from the elbow. He's the main guy to run the offense vs a zone, but when they clog up the middle, it's hard to get him open.

They should make the court a big square and baskets on the sides and each team can score in either of their baskets

Maybe add 5 players to each team on the court and another ball, man think how exciting that would be

What in the world is going on in here? Of course a larger court would be harder to defend. However, you don't need a larger court. The three point line was pushed back to help offenses, it spreads the offense more. This is the case particularly with zones because it enlarges the space between the guards which opens up a driving lane. If you decided to go to a 3-2 then you're giving up the corner three which is the easiest shot for a jump shooter.

Against man defense, sure. Not with a zone packing the paint.

I'm not a basketball guy so I'll take your word for it, but my thinking here is basketball has a fairly defined "scoring" range and the zone defends that range, not the full court. Widening the court doesn't make a larger scoring range, unlike, for instance, hockey where you can score from basically anywhere on your half of the ice. But I'm sure there are other factors I'm not accounting for.

Yeah, if you want the zone to go away, make the court smaller. Teams would constantly use full court man pressure to take advantage of the lack of space.

They should make the court a big square and baskets on the sides and each team can score in either of their baskets

to add to that, squares are the purest shape (as far as rectangles go) which makes this the purest form of basketball.

Up top, yes there isn't really much more space to defend, although the three point line getting moved out did absolutely spread the zone out and made for s larger gap between the guards. However, widening the court would absolutely extend the floor in the corners and would spread the wing defenders too. That scoring range could go well beyond what it does now, in the corners.

earth to skinnybenny, nobody loved the jake waters long bombs more than i did

beautiful, entertaining, modern basketball is a mix of 3 bombs, ball movement, and sick iso moves. all of which requires space. not this rough ridin' 6th grade stand around with your hands up garbage, let's pass the ball around the top and maybe pass into the middle once in a while. it's not even that effective, oscar crushed ku's zone so hard they had to switch back.

Don’t think Bill Self cares if it’s beautiful or entertaining if it holds the other team scoreless from the field for nine consecutive minutes. :dunno:

Ksu was opposite of scoreless when oscar broke down the zone. I prefer a more watchable version of basketball, but that's just me.

Speaking of basketball rules.

When my mother was a high school basketball stud, they played 6-on-6! But like, 3 girls from each team would always be on one end of the court, and 3 girls from each team would be on the other. So 3 would always be on defense and weren't allowed to shoot, and 3 were always the offensive players.

I'm not completely sure about all the rules, but I've always enjoyed hearing the stories.

Harden. Definitely when it came to getting buckets, but there was a lot more passing involved as well.
