I don't really ever get to be "that guy" who has connections, but I was visiting with a friend of mine who is a middle-manager type in the DNC. I'm not sure exactly what her job is - she's not a big-wig, but she's not just a pawn either.
We don't really talk about politics that often, but as we were talking, I saw something about the Iowa Primary tick across the screen and I mentioned I had no idea that was going on. She lit up, thrilled that Trump won.
Basically, they have been told to do what they can to not go after Trump and try and make sure he gets the nomination. Once he does, then the gloves come off. It sounds like they like their numbers regardless, but if Trump is the R nomination, they will go with Biden and their numbers look unbeatable.
If Desantis or Haley win, then Biden becomes a "coin flip at best" so they likely pivot strategies and Biden steps down. I tried to pry to see who that would be, but she didn't give much information. She seemed confident either way, but I would expect that from someone in her position.

I guess I missed the part where y'all had a nooner afterwards cause I'm still trying to piece together "female, friend, and democrat" and I'm struggling.
