There are not any elite level coaches currently known as "recruiters" who weren't at one time known as "coach 'em ups".  That includes Calipari.

You really think that taking Butler to the NC would be the same as taking UK or KU to the NC?

Do you get a bigger trophy or something?  :dunno:

If they do the guy who recruited the better talent should get the bigger trophy because it has less to do with luck.

How many games are decided purely on luck?  Was KSU just unlucky for like 20 years?

No, we sucked at recruiting

Are you rough ridin' kidding me? Rick Barnes?

dead serious ... you?

Did you not watch his team last season, tard? The guy can recruit, but as far as coaching goes he is nothing special.

LOL at anyone who doesn't have K as #1. Dude is the G.O.A.T.

the rest in no order but first group is better than second group.

Ol' Roy
Izzo
Pitino
Boehiem

Huggs
Motta
Donovan
Howland
Self

This is a hard one to give a good answer to because being the most accomplished is not the same as being the best for say the next 5 or so years going forward.

Still it begins and ends with K.
If there was a gif of nicname thwarting the attempted-flag-taker and then gesturing him to suck it, followed by motioning for all of Hilton Shelter to boo him louder, it'd be better than that auburn gif.

Should probably have like 2 categories:

A)  Legitimate good coaches, who could take an untalented team and still get some decent play out of it-  Ex- Coach K, Izzo, Huggins, etc.

B)  Dudes that recruit like crazy (and have good records because of it) but probably aren't that great of coaches.  Barnes, Calipari, Self, etc.

Huggs took a horrible KSU team and got them within a game of the tourney.  Barnes took an incredibly talented Texas team and damn near didn't make the tournament.  Coach K took a bunch of crackers and won the damn thing.  Calipari took five first rounders and missed out on even a Final Four.  Izzo somehow found a way to make another Final Four, Self took 2 AAs, a lottery pick, a drunk, a weasel, two mongoloids, and a point plank'r and got UNI'd.  That kind of stuff.

Izzo, Huggins and Coach K are fantastic recruiters.  Fantastic.

Anyone any where near the top 10 coaches are going to be fantastic recruiters.  I'm just saying that some dudes can recruit like crazy but never really seem to do anything special with that talent.  Sometimes a dude's recruiting abilities can help cover possible coaching deficiencies.  Obviously Coach K, Izzo, and Huggs recruit like mothers, but they actually get great results with that talent...

Cal has gotten more results than Huggins, fwiw.

LOL @ putting Boeheim in the top tier.  If Self had his record, you guys would be bashing him even harder than you do now.  From '04 to '08,  Boeheim had two first round losses and two NIT appearances.  Since '03, his team hasn't made it past the Sweet Sixteen.  The guy has two total Final Fours since he started coaching back in 1976.

Add Jimmy B to the long list of things BMW obsessively seeks validation from.

Boeheim is absolutely top tier imo (is Bill Self a John Wooden "Legends of Coaching" honoree?)

however i digress because i firmly believe that Bill is a better coach than ol deputy dawg

1. K
2. Izzo
3. Calhoun
4. Self
5. Huggy
6. Pittino
7. Cal
8. deputy
9. Donovan
10. Doc Sadler (the fact that the best x & o's coach in the game has been omitted to this point is a travesty)
