Age verification for porn sites is good in and of itself.

For the performers, absolutely. But nic I’ve got some bad news. Kids are going to see teh pr0n. They just are and there is no safe guard that will mitigate it in any meaningful way. (This is not a new development. It’s literally always been this way)

that's a dumb argument that i've heard used against gun control regulation

75% of kids look at porn. But give us all your personal information and we’ll realistically get that down to…72%

Also, invalid comparison. Nobody is going to die because someone didn’t exercise good porn safety
Ease of access is a dumb reason for not regulating anything. The laws just need to make sense and the tools need to be developed.

To mocat’s point, acting like either of those presents an insurmountable barrier is intellectually dishonest. Obviously I think we should prioritize guns, but that’s not mutually exclusive with limiting minors’ ability to access adult content.

And I’m not against the idea of regulation, I’m just saying these are 2 very different things that require very different implementation strategies. And just because something is going to be very difficult I’m not saying we shouldn’t still try, but I think the implications of what is being given up greatly outweigh the benefit. Like personally, if there is a 5% uptick in identity theft cases (and I will bet my life on it, that database absolutely will be hacked and will leave lots of people vulnerable to identity theft simply bc their information was there) but the number of kids looking at porn decreases 5%, I don’t see that as a good trade off. Not even close

The age verification stuff only affects olds and other people who don't know how to use computers. The kids are alright.
My winning smile and can-do attitude.
