In LibBot and Fake Centerists world is “free trade” a one way street? 

Why does the EU refuse to drop its higher by over a full percentage point across the board tariffs? 

Related, we now know that the militaries for the 3 largest economies in the EU are as of right now, in such a woeful state of readiness.   That by themselves and in the face of Vlad Putin, they’d get mushed.  We spend billions protecting them while being on the crap side of a $100 Billion dollar plus trade deficit with them.  Seems fair

I think everyone understands tariffs =/ free trade, and even a child understands a good old fashioned quid pro quo. Hence the support for tariffs in the near term.

An announcement could come as soon as Tuesday, according to two people briefed on the matter. This is the latest sign that growing tensions between the United States and other countries will not end soon.

Farm groups have complained that Trump’s tariffs on foreign imports have led other countries to retaliate with tariffs on U.S. products, jeopardizing farmers’ overseas sales of soybeans and other crops.

Like I pointed out many posts ago, China is in miserable economic position to engage in a trade war. Nearly ever outlet engaged in substantive economic analysis (rather than trump demagoguery) agrees. Mnuchin (genius) is surgical in his timing. China can fold or bid, it cannot beat the USA.
