Lots of Big 12 implications here.
From The Athletic
Quote
Texas State: West Virginia offensive coordinator Jake Spavital has accepted the Texas State head coaching job, people with knowledge of the situation tells The Athletic’s oscar Feldman. The Austin American-Statesman first reported the news. Spavital spent the past two years at WVU, calling plays this year for the No. 9 scoring offense in the country. He had previously been the offensive coordinator at Cal and Texas A&M. The 33-year-old has also coached at Houston, Tulsa and Oklahoma State. OK State offensive analyst Bob Stitt is expected to become Spavital’s offensive coordinator, Feldman reports. Update: Texas State has confirmed the Spavital hire.

I'm not all that impressed with Dana. We could do a lot worse, but I don't see him ever winning the Big 12.

they were 4 points from being in the title game this year where they would have played a team that beat them by 4. A couple random plays going differently and they'd have won it this year.

Yea we could do a lot worse than Dana (and probably will), but it woudl be hard to get excited about him because you know what you're getting...a moderately successful coach that probably won't go all that far ever. I'm probably a higher risk taker and would like to take a higher risk on someone that could go farther.

After the initial adjustment of playing in the Big 12, my impression has been that Dana's teams have been improving.  WVU has passed by KSU, BU, TCU, and OSU as a program IMO, and only behind OU and UT.

Yeah, I guess this will only be the second season he finishes ranked. But still this is also arguably his most successful season.

If this didn't happen Kirby will need to refute it , the fans won't buy into Matt Wells, at all.

I wouldn't complain much if we got him. Honestly someone like him is probably what we need (ie another coach that can keep the ball rolling not named Snyder). He just seems like a frustrating coach that makes occasional boneheaded decisions.

dana brings the entertainment/zanyness factor that many coaches lack

Dana would be good. Make KSU better and more fun, make conference competitor worse.

This year is as bad as I can remember the Big 12 ever being, and he still could not quite get there.

Urban Meyer is retiring, and Ryan Day will replace him after the bowl game.

Urban Meyer would be a pie-in-the-sky dream coach for KSU.  I hope his health improves and he can get back into the game.  He's good at what he does.
