So, break this down for me. What's the upshot?

Right now it's still just a financial issue, because people are being scammed out of their BTC.  These "give away" or matching tactics are a pretty common crypto scam that scams people who don't know any better out of BTC.  However, this is a giant security risk in general because most of these accounts that are posting this stuff had 2 factor authentication on.  A hacker is using some vulnerability to post from verified accounts en mass to a crap load of people by bypassing 2 factor authentication.  It's just financial now but what if they post from a ranking official or Trump's account about some political/economic thing or announcing we are going to nuke North Korea?  I mean this is bad.

I did my taxes last night and the algorithm asked if I sold any bitcoin because the government wants to know and I'm like none of your business government but also I didn't sell any so I answered truthfully

Man, I thought an inside job of using the IT infrastructure of a huge school system to mine bitcoin was impressive.

Obviously, sd is in a different economic stratum than I am, because that $400 in unrealized gains has changed my life.
