Guys! I’m still alive!

Holy crap tho :sdeek:

So completed the Manitou Incline right at 2 hours, which is about what the average time is to complete. It was an intense hike. The biggest thing for me was the altitude and just being out of breathe. It starts off not so bad and then the middle section is freaking brutal. It gains elevation FAST and it’s a little unnerving looking back down.

You get to what you think is the top and it’s a false top and it just keeps going. It wasn’t that busy the day we went but normally I guess it’s just packed. There were people that were practically running back down the stairs which I would never do. We took the barr trail back down which was another 3 miles or so and was equally hard on the knees and back. By the time we got back down my legs were jello but I never thought I would be able to conquer something like this 2 years ago when I was sick. Recommend for people looking for a challenge. The view is also amazing from the top.

Really great work DBT!  There's a similar (not quite as steep) incline in Cave Creek, AZ that I like to do every time I'm down in Phoenix as a warm up first hike of the trip:  https://www.alltrails.com/explore/trail/us/arizona/black-mountain-trail

Black Mountain Trail maxes out at only 40% grade while Manitou gets up to 60%, which is genuinely kind of insane.

The Manitou incline seems like it's a little more stairmaster-y too but I'd still love to give it a go sometime.  Jealous.

Recently moved to NW Arkansas.  I've done more hiking the last 2 months than I did in the rest of my life combined.   :runaway:

This has inspired me to get off my ass and start walking again. I am 15 years removed from doing Philmont 2x with my boys.  I was peak post-high school fitness for those hikes in NM.

Nice job, DBT!

Thanks, guys. I've been reflecting on this and how far I have come from 2 years ago when I literally could barely even walk outside. It's genuinely insane that going to the grocery store, to ride around in one of those little scooter things would completely wear me out, and now I'm able to do this. Crazy.

You act like every poster on this blog isn't an absolute EMAW stud at everything.  I would be surprised if you didn't whip some silly mountain's ass up and down
