I consider myself a #SNL connoisseur. I watch every week. I don't ever remember it being this bad. It's fine tho, it is what it is. I mean, after Drumpf won, they opened up with Hillary singing a goodbye song to "hallelujah" and the character looked like she wanted to cry when it was over. It was super weird and not even close to trying to be funny. It was a message SNL wanted to send out.
I took Hillary singing that song much more "well, this election, as horrible as it has been for everyone watching it is over" rather than a memorium for her campaign, even though it does work out that way for them. Also Leonard Cohen just died, and I'm pretty sure if Hillary had won it would've been Trump singing. Sure it's not funny, but sometimes it needs to make that point of just how absurd the whole thing was/is.
I definitely feel like they would have focused more time on the conservative candidate still, but possibly not as much as Trump. They had a blast with Ben Carson and Ted Cruz FWIW. They made Bernie funny and cool and Hillary a condescending, fun liking character. Even tho she was probably one of the more LOL democratic candidates of all time. As far as I can remember they've always made the conservative the dumbass goofball compared to the "hip, lovable lib".
I know this is going to be a difference of opinion, but when has the republican party had anything other than an angry old white dude as their nom/prez? Not exactly hip. I do think they made Rubio a little more hip since he's younger and he tried to be more hip. Also, "Melaniade" says hai for cool hipness.
Total aside but I really like Kate McKinnon. Her Hillary and Kellyanne Conway impressions are amazing, her eyes still kinda scare me as they are pretty intense but she does a great job with both parts.
