I am definitely not saying this is the case, but from some observation a) old people tend to get very vocal about things as their viewpoints narrow and their wits dim and b) when you are fully retired and nothing you say can affect your future negatively (getting on tv could probably help push a book deal for extra $$) it would make sense to only now start speaking out.

It could also be that this administration is the real life incarnation of the tv show VEEP and this bungling group of idiots is one misstep away from wrecking the world. Who knows right?

Oh boy, big Cohen news today, too. Among other things, pleaded guilty to two counts of campaign finance violations for Trump hush money.

Paying an extortionist hush money as breaking campaign finance laws is a novel theory.

I mean, I'm no anti-blackmail statute expert, and perhaps truth is a defense, but threatening to defame someone if you aren't paid a large sum of money doesn't exactly scream legal.

Paying a porn star to have sex with you doesn’t seem very legal, either. It’s almost like the president and everyone he surrounds himself with have trouble following the law.

The theory, I'm not making this up, is that paying these women was intended to "influence the elction", therefore it violates campaign finance laws because it exceeded the $2700 max donation. Pretty incredible. I assumed he was simply the conduit for the money, not cutting huge checks because he loved trump so much.

I mean, are you saying it may not have actually happened or it isn’t a crime? Cause I don’t see much room for doubt either way.

Maybe I'm misinterpreting, but I thought it was interesting because it indicates a major change from when he first took office. It appears the market has adapted to his blather and now recognizes it as bullshit.

it's an interesting observation and a pretty good tweet.  maybe a little overinterpreted (let's see what happens when trump puts his mind to talking down the dollar), but it was nice of him to draw attention to it.

Would be smart for Trump to pursue the Edwardian defense that no campaign laws applied to this situation.

Looking forward to the early morning tweet calling the failing New York Times fake news.

We learned from the best.   Watching Libs, particularly Lib women close ranks when their guy sexually assaulted a woman in the White House bore a standard we could only hope to come close to.

I think it was just a woman his out-of-wedlock child.

Anecdote: I used to lunch at a little Bistro down the road from the private island John had a house on.   Word was he was a real hound, I think it was nearly a $1 million that was spent.  Avoided 30 years by invoking that campaign laws didn't apply.

Some pretty good evidence that Trump was a co-conspirator to a federal crime? But we'll need more than Cohen's testimony, since co-conspirator testimony requires corroboration. Nothing to do with Russia, at this point. And Mueller has made it clear he will follow DOJ guidelines and not indict a sitting president, meaning Trump won't face legal consequences unless/until he's voted out of office or impeached--perhaps not even then. For now, this is a political rather than legal problem for the big guy. This one should linger longer than the usual Trump stuff, tho.
