I don’t think he saw it as a major revelation, and it really isn’t. No one actually thought Cohen paid $130k of his own money without telling Trump about it. The headline: “Trump Lied” really doesn’t jump off the page anymore.

Iirc one reason Mueller gave for wanting to interview Trump was the Stormy settlement, so admitting she was paid and Cohen reimbursed looks like a ploy to at least make that reason to interview go away.

Cohen is the one who would have been in trouble, so I think this concession was to help keep Cohen on his side.

Not sure I understand the first point, but if Trump doesn’t say it, it would not satisfy prosecutors.

As for the second, I’m not sure how this would help Cohen. He can always tell the truth himself that Trump paid him to make the thing go away. Most likely Rudy just assumed that is what Cohen is going to say and he’s just getting in front of it.

But again, I’m surprised it’s news at all. Everyone already knew these things.
