I really don't understand how any of these networks haven't called this thing yet. It's been pretty obvious who is going to win since Wednesday.
I don't know much about the process but my guess is recounts
538 had a real good podcast last week with the guy who does the official projections for ABC. Basically, they don't call it unless they feel confident within 99.5% certainty and a few other factors. So basically, if there is theoretically enough evidence to that point, they call it. The thing with something like PA then is there is like 111k mail ins and like 100k provisional votes left while Biden has like 13k lead. Now while it has been shown pretty certainly Biden gets these votes at a 80-20 clip, it's still technically uncertain, especially with the uncertainty of the provisional votes. So, I think once Biden gets enough of a lead, and/or there are not enough votes left outstanding to potentially counter, that's when they call it.
It does seem pretty obvious you could do it now under normal circumstances, I just think they are taking as long of a time as they can, I don't think anyone (states themselves included) want to call this yet if there is any potential change out there. I think the last thing they want is any blowback from trump and any sort of potential litigation to happen. Also, there is a certain amount of anchoring bias out there, given trump's lead in PA and GA, and then seeing that go away, it's hard to be like "oh yeah, Biden def won this" even though he did.
There just is no incentive to do this quickly from the point of view of the vote counters and networks IMO, and I don't think it's at all malicious.
