Title: Will this election process take down FOX news?
Post by: Tubesock on October 26, 2016, 10:51:40 AM
They have crossed their viewership on a personal level by taking up arms with the establishment 'pubs.
O'reilly sucks and is old
Hannity can't possibly work for these guys after showing their ass like this.
Kelly believes her own press clippings and doesn't get it that 85% of the country will hate her now instead of 50%.

I think FOX is gonna be dead, and as a conservative, I think I'm glad.

Maybe.  Doesn't seem to be a lot of money in cable news for moderates and Trump News will take their dumb dumb viewers from them.

Yeah, when you have a monopoly, you can do whatever you want.

Maddow could kill her wife and MSNBC would keep her on until they dragged her off to prison, then make her the host of Locked Up.

It was about money not comfort. They were comfortable sweeping this under the rug for years. It became public and sponsors pulled their support.

Good Lord.

Not sure if this was covered in the article, but I heard a big reason for canning O'Reilly is because Fox is in the process of buying a major stake in Sky News (sp?) and there is some "fit and proper" requirement they need to satisfy.  Right now Fox would probably fire anyone surrounded by controversy so that it doesn't cost them this deal.

Statement on coverage of Seth Rich murder investigation

Published May 23, 2017Fox News
On May 16, a story was posted on the Fox News website on the investigation into the 2016 murder of DNC Staffer Seth Rich. The article was not initially subjected to the high degree of editorial scrutiny we require for all our reporting. Upon appropriate review, the article was found not to meet those standards and has since been removed.

"I'm watching now and screaming," one Fox News personality said in a text message to CNN as the person watched their network's coverage. "I want to quit."

"It is another blow to journalists at Fox who come in every day wanting to cover the news in a fair and objective way," one senior Fox News employee told CNN of their outlet's coverage, adding that there were "many eye rolls" in the newsroom over how the news was covered.

The person said, "Fox feels like an extension of the Trump White House."
...
"This kind of coverage does the viewer a huge disservice and further divides the country," one Fox News personality told CNN.
...
"That segment on Outnumbered [questioning Mueller's integrity] was absurd and deserves all the scorn it can get," a Fox News employee told CNN, referring to the network's noontime talk show.

The person added that it was "laughable seeing Hannity and [Laura] Ingraham," two Fox News opinion hosts who are openly supportive of Trump, "tripping over themselves saying [Mueller's team has] found nothing thus far."

"It's an embarrassment," another Fox News employee echoed to CNN. "Frankly, there are shows on our network that are backing the President at all costs, and it's that short term strategy that undermines the good work being done by others."

As much as I view Fox News as a plague on this country the Rich family won’t win this lawsuit. Even though the Gawker lawsuit was groundbreaking it won’t help here. However, if people care to see that the evidence Fox “news” used to run that story it was quite unbelievable that it even aired. If I remember right this story was run right after FBI Director Comey was fired and the White House was having a hard time defending the firing. The Lester Holt interview didn’t help their story, so they needed a distraction for the viewers of Fox “News”. They destroyed Seth Rich’s family as a diversion to protect Trump. CNN ran a bad story and fired everyone attached to it. Fox News has mastered the technique of “SCREAM BLOODY MURDER” then retract the story a week later, in fact the Lie Now Retract later technique is a huge reason why we are in this mess now.

As for Fox News on a different planet then NPR listeners I would agree with this assessment. There is no Uranium One Scandal, the FISA Judges were picked by Chief Justice John Roberts (Republican appointee), they were honest with the judges that some of the information was politically motivated. However, it was George Papadopoulos who started the FBI investigation. Fox news has created a completely different reality for their viewers than those of us “in reality-based communities” live.

As for the George Soros boogeyman for the Conservative wing…. where is the outrage about the Koch Brothers, Mercer Family, and Betsy DeVos  straight up buying her way to the Ed Sect?

Could go here or in a Russia thread, but...

Quote
A retired United States Army lieutenant colonel and Fox News contributor quit Tuesday and denounced the network and President Donald Trump in an email to colleagues.

"Fox has degenerated from providing a legitimate and much-needed outlet for conservative voices to a mere propaganda machine for a destructive and ethically ruinous administration," wrote Peters, a Fox News "strategic analyst."

"Over my decade with Fox, I long was proud of the association. Now I am ashamed," he wrote
.
Quote
Despite increasingly pathetic denials, it turns out that the "nothing-burger" has been covered with Russian dressing all along.

Quote
So, to all of you: Thanks, and, as our president's favorite world leader would say, "Das vidanya."

Peters was briefly suspended in 2015 for calling President Obama a "total pussy" while on the Fox Business Network.

Media left are like a bunch of shitz eating possums.  They don't have any ethics aND morales other than being bastards hell bent on destroying trump or anyone who champions him.  On top of the list is Hannity at Fox  and his radio show.  I just read an article about Hannity investing in a company that buys properties for investment reasons.  SOB authors tried to spin this as a crime.  At the very end, one short quip explaining people who have money do this - borrow money to make by purchasing property.  Of course property can't belong to people accounting to ultra leftocommunists.

I don't watch cable news, so cannot comment on the quality of any of it, but I would absolutely expect Fox to get solid ratings as long as Trump is president.  It's the same reason he has so many Twitter followers.  Regardless of which way you lean, people want to know what is on the President's mind, and he has made it pretty clear he watches (and believes) what is on Fox.
Title: Re: Will this election process take down FOX news?

Fox and MSNBC will always have solid ratings and it's not just because of Trump, it's because of #Science. Both sides go to hear what they want to hear with the network that will feed it to them.

And just to prove I’m not a sock of some schlep that used a captian Picard avatar back in the day, I’m going to personal measssage you for help on how do you attach pictures and videos and all that other cool stuff that everyone here knows how to do? I don’t because Trapperman dot com has a cool function where you can upload stuff but well that’s not available here. And I’ve spent more time there than here you know, lots of coyote and Animal Damage Control stuff to keep up on.

Agreed.

I did see on Drudge or someplace that a few days ago Carlson had more viewers for his show than CNN had for the entire nightly lineup combined on that particular night.

So, that makes this thread kind of funny.

Per @farhip, the Fox News town hall with @BernieSanders last night "attracted 2.55 million viewers, most for a candidate town hall this year.

Thing is people don't know crap about Sanders, other than bullshit put in their minds by those trying to brainwash everyone into believing he's an old senile commie.  Thing is he is for the working man; and the rich and corp. are doing whatever they can to discredit him.  And it doesn't matter if he a Dem. or Pub.  Spend some time lessoning to what he has to say; and if you're not a rough ridin' billionaire, you'll agree with what he's saying.

What's crazy is that people hear this and are like 'eff YEAH'. I mean think about that, his supporters are so stupid and brainwashed they think a totalitarian state would be good. That's pretty rough ridin' stupid, but there are millions of dumb ass people that think that's a good idea. It's just crazy.

I do fear that pursuing impeachment without clear evidence of a crime that even the dumbest among us could understand is a bad idea. If we just wait a year, he'll be removed from office in the usual fashion. I'm afraid of how radicalized the impeachment process will make certain ppl. It's already causing distressing, yet humorous, signals in this country. But I'm afraid it's going to lead to tragic and unfortunate consequences, and I'm not really talking about mass violence so much as a metaphorically widening chasm of understanding and empathy for each other.

If he is voted out, yes. However, I think the chance for chaos is much more likely in the event of an impeachment. But even then, I dont think the military or any other major government apparatus will stay loyal to him. It will just be an uglier/sadder exodus. And it will cause unneeded fracturing among the citizens.

It seems like we should be able to invoke impeachment for gross incompetence even if there is no crime. Like, suppose some president legally nukes another country solely because voices in his head told him to. Do we just sit around and wait for the next election?

I mean they could try and change rhetoric, be more bipartisan towards legislation that aims to solve problems. Impeachment will only lead to a hyper partisan environment that will be less about facts and actions of the President and more about a zero sum struggle between the two parties for power(but I guess we are already here :dunno:). The messaging during impeachment will definitely create a situation with spracs' concerns. One branch not checking another branch's power is also not a great outcome.   :'bye cruel world:

Hmm. Not sure whether I should be offended, but I'll choose to not be. I'll try to answer what I think you're asking.

First, Trump's core supporters. That's a given, and I understand that they have already been radicalized to varying degrees. You may be inclined to write them off, but dont forget that they account for something like 30% of the country. Writing people off leads to problems (See: the election of Donald John Trump).

More troubling, there are many people who are not Trumpers, but could be called "moderate Republicans," some of whom are capable of being forced further to the right as a reaction to what they feel is an undemocratic conspiracy (a) to undermine the levers of democracy, and (b) to censure (in their minds) values that they hold dear. Those values, and that fear, need not be logical. It is enough that it is experienced as such.

I did not think it would be controversial to say that the impeachment process would be damaging to the health of our electorate. Both parties have acknowledged just that. What am I missing here?

I've seen a lot of wacky (even relative to the adjusted baseline) things happen the past few weeks. All I am saying is that it would be better for society (and politics, honestly) if we just let the system correct itself. Trump will never change. He does not understand why the wrongs he commits are wrong. But I truly believe--and this episode is evidence of same--that there are enough adult Patriots around to prevent him from doing any serious damage over the next 13 months. The emperor has no clothes.

Also, either do it or don't. If you're going to do it, rip the bandaid off. Let's move on. Just remember how much stupidity and animus there is in this country. Impeachment is a remedy that is exceedingly rare. It is difficult for the offended party's followers to understand, absent universally comprehensible conduct. The familiar levers of democracy are preferable, imo.

I don't think the House will even vote to impeach. Without the Senate, they know it would be poor strategy and could backfire. This is about leverage and the ability to use subpoena power to see if they can uncover something that will convince pubs (and their voters) that impeachment is neccessary. Will that happen? Maybe, but unclear. My guess is unlikely.

I think it's sad that we're discussing leverage and strategy. It's clear that Trump and his administration have committed impeachable offenses. We had been discussing whether it was politically smart for the Democrats to pursue it then this Ukraine stuff happened and they had no choice. You have to stand up to this. It's clear, more clear, country before party isn't a priority for so many.

The Democrats aren't going to do crap, under the current facts. They're FPs TCs etc. This post is subject to future amendment in light of future revelations of fact.

Our ye olde judge has succumbed to partisanship. Sad.
That was an objective observation and corresponding prediction. Just calling balls and strikes, here. And calling my shot, subject to a contingency. Under the current facts, I dont think the Democrats have the chutzpah to do it (and for good reason).

I mostly agree with Spracne's predictions but I also think a lot more is going to come out. Probably not enough to pull in Republicans, but I think it will be enough that democrats will have a very tough primary season if the house doesn't go forward.

Trump agrees, he is not willing to stand by and watch the Bidens sell our country out for personal gain as it appears they may have.  If this is confirmed there need to be consequences.  Trump also believes the Mueller investigation was a political witch hunt which appears to be true after all the efforts to find something worthy of removing him from office were fruitless.  He is currently investigating the origins of the witch hunt and if Barr produces proof those people should face consequences.
