I’m just having difficulty fathoming being in a mental state where you feel entitled to an echo chamber.

What's crazy is that people hear this and are like 'eff YEAH'. I mean think about that, his supporters are so stupid and brainwashed they think a totalitarian state would be good. That's pretty rough ridin' stupid, but there are millions of dumb ass people that think that's a good idea. It's just crazy.

I do fear that pursuing impeachment without clear evidence of a crime that even the dumbest among us could understand is a bad idea. If we just wait a year, he'll be removed from office in the usual fashion. I'm afraid of how radicalized the impeachment process will make certain ppl. It's already causing distressing, yet humorous, signals in this country. But I'm afraid it's going to lead to tragic and unfortunate consequences, and I'm not really talking about mass violence so much as a metaphorically widening chasm of understanding and empathy for each other.

Do you think there will be a peaceful transition of power?

If he is voted out, yes. However, I think the chance for chaos is much more likely in the event of an impeachment. But even then, I dont think the military or any other major government apparatus will stay loyal to him. It will just be an uglier/sadder exodus. And it will cause unneeded fracturing among the citizens.

Yeah. Do you see why I was hesitant to agree to this bet? It will be so subjective as to 'peaceful', we may disagree but I wouldn't want to either party to be burned on something like this.

I mean, Nancy isn’t stupid. She pushed back on it as long as she could. Agree with the above post entirely.

I think impeachment would be good for this country. Not impeaching just opens the door for more of this sort of behavior in the future.

It seems like we should be able to invoke impeachment for gross incompetence even if there is no crime. Like, suppose some president legally nukes another country solely because voices in his head told him to. Do we just sit around and wait for the next election?

But yes, I think most legal experts agree “high crimes and misdemeanors” is a really antiquated phrase that would not have been viewed as requiring a crime when it was drafted.

Congresspeople are acting like angry hyper partisan dumbasses because they think that’s what they have to do to get re-elected.

No, just anything more specific. Your post sounded like something Ben Sasse would say.
