I think Roku and Amazon Fire TV are pretty even for all the stuff you care about. I've only had the Roku but I love it. Don't know much about the Xbox 360, but something else I really like about the others are you can pretty easily set up a TV outside without much hassle if the weather's nice.

seems like "cutting the cord" is a massive pain in the ass, cannot even imagine making such a decision

It is.  I don't think I have the balls to do it.

If you watch a lot of tv, it probably isn't worth it.  For example, the very few things we actually set up to be dvr'ed on the Vue app usually don't let you fast forward.  Or you can, but only so much.  Also, live tv....you can pause it, but you can only be a couple min behind, then it just plays and you lose your ability to pause until you catch up.

Most of what we watch is on Netflix or Prime, so this is only a pain in the ass for one or two things a week.  If it was more, we would probably keep cable.

We kept the tivo for this reason.  I don't think I could live under such conditions if I had to watch sports like that.

If most of what you watch is Netflix, you won't really care much, imo.

Cutting the cord is a million times easier than any advice you'll find in the How Many Credit Cards Do You Have thread.

I could easily create a list of 5-10 steps of everything you need.

Literally the hardest part is cancelling cable.

But CNS is right about all that stuff if you have a bunch of non-streaming service show that you have to watch.

I have gone back and forth with cutting the cord for the 6 years or so. I barely watch TV, but I prefer the convenience of cable when I do feel like watching something though.

When I get rid of it I don't really miss it, but oh well.

Not going to be long before you can get cable through an app anyway.  The govt has been working on making it so that you don't have to use your cable provider's box, so that you could go buy one(like you do with a router for your internet).  Also, there was just a law passed that somehow provides the ability to allow cable to be provided via an app, without any box and via the internet.

I was just talking to a TWC guy about this yesterday and he said that TWC has such an app but that they require a min of one cable box on the bill to use it, but that it can be used anywhere via mobile devices or anything that streams.  It can't be long before the box detail is dropped and we are fully out of the box rental bullshit.

I had something similar to that not long ago. Really just a function of limited inputs on a TV.

"Cord cutting" isn't a pain in the ass at all.

I guess, technically, we didn't completely cut the cord. We lowered our cable to the lowest option available...basically just the local channels and some others that never get watched. (tried an antenna for local channels, didn't work well)

In addition to the lowest tier from Cox, we have SlingTV, and Amazon FireTV. On the FireTV we've got Kodi installed with all the goodies.

The ONLY thing that is tough to find sometimes is live sports on an ESPN network. Even then, you can usually find a stream...it just might not be in HD.

Saving $80 or more per month has been worth it.
