If Scotland leaves the UK, does Elizabeth stop being their queen? Do they find a different king or queen or do they just not have one anymore?

Only because Canada didn't have the balls to rise up a pretender. Scotland might do that.

I'm weirdly comforted that the UK is just as mumped up as the US.

I'm not. There is nothing good that comes from this stuff and plenty of REALLY bad stuff.

Katie Hopkins is not an actual conservative. Unlike here, they don't have an entire party embracing nationalism. This is essentially how the Republicans were in America before 2008.

Trump is bff with Katie Hopkins. Which tells you all you need to know about either trump or hopkins if you only know about one of them currently.

What is Brexit about if not nationalism? Isn't immigration (particularly Muslim) also a huge issue for pro Brexit people?

Both are a plausible option.

Look at the voting map.

Scotland does not want to leave.

Irish border is a significant issue.

Yes, nationalism is a huge deal for some pro brexit supporters, but for most the move from the EU is for perceived economic freedom. I personally know a lot of pro brexit brits and they're not nationalists. With yesterday's vote they essentially approved brexit, twice, with the second more emphatic than the first.

This is a pretty basic, but it gets the point across

Depending on how you view these things, "economic freedom" can be a limited instance of (or perhaps merely a euphemism for) nationalism. My view is that conservatives are largely pretty uninformed and unsophisticated. I bring up their simultaneous views on immigration because they're not coincidental. It's all part of the same package.

I think there is a pretty decent chance that Scotland ends up independent and the UK goes away.

that was my initial thought, but i've become convinced that it is a lot less likely than it might appear at first glance.

Did you look at Ireland's election results?  I think you have the wrong part of the Kingdom.

If that's your view nothing's going to change your mind, there are plenty of articles out there that indicate there are many reasons outside of immigration & nationalism to support Brexit. There have long been issues that Brits have had with industry regulation and it is fact that the EU economy is stagnant, and has been for a while. This week's election, can be argued, was just as much about the NHS than it was Brexit.

It isn't just conservatives there that support Brexit, the Labour Party has pro-Brexit factions. If I were in the UK I would not for Brexit, however it's ignorant to paint it as simply anti-immigrant legislation.

and to the extent it is about immigration it's at least as much about polish immigrants as muslim immigrants.  as a rule, americans seem to have a hard time understanding european prejudices because we are so racialized that we assume the whole world shares that mindset.

There are also many reasons given to support BUILD THE WALL. I'm talking about why lots of dumb fucks actually support it. The UK has its dumb fucks, too. We all have human brains with similar psychological characteristics regardless of which side of the Atlanric we're on.

And good grief. Muslim immigration is a huge issue in lots of Europe, including the UK.

You're not supposed to say you got "gypped" if like chipotle doesn't give you enough meat in your burrito, for example
