the only people that think there needs to be another aggieville hotel are out of town alcoholic 40 year olds who want to be able to stumble to their bed after a night in the ville while trying to relive their fun college years that they more than likely never had in the first place.

I'm staying in an aggieville hotel this weekend  :)

think of all of that space for new activities!

dax's new bbq place could go in the new blue earth plaza candlewood suites
can't you imagine dax sitting there just bitching away about the Carolina bbq not being Carolina enough.

the roanake is so much more beautiful than the big blue. sad, really.

This thread just made me realize I have no idea where to PAK this weekend when not doing the actual FattyFest stuff in Mae's.  Houlihan's?

well, yeah.  obvs.  what's the downside?

like chicat has already said, it brings absolutely nothing to the table for the people who live in manhattan and makes an already kind of bad traffic situation even worse. so as long as you can read, the downside seems pretty obvious. NO BENEFIT + WORSE TRAFFIC= NET LOSS

No benefit doesn't equal downside.  Unless, of course, you're paying for it.

so, really it comes down to "traffic."  apparently.

I'm just saying the city shouldn't incentivize it at all and it would make parking shittier.  I am not saying it won't be successful or that if investors want to build it, they shouldn't be allowed to.  But, to be clear, they are building a hotel across the street from a hotel in a city with plenty of hotels.

The biggest downside is the opportunity lost of doing something more worthwhile in prime Manhattan real estate.

As someone who travels to Manhattan about 10 times a year, Manhattan definitely needs more hotels, I don't care where they are. I'd prefer rooms on the north side (why the hell aren't they're hotels on the north side?) but I don't care where they are at this point.

Is the HGI a legit conference center?

It will never happen, but a hotel next to the new Foundation building would make sense. Close to the stadium and NBAF...

There was a real beef cattle conference there this week with the realest 10 gallon hats I've ever seen.

HGI gets a lot of state conferences. Most associations are pretty happy to put Manhattan in the rotation.  Some of the larger ones were just bouncing between Wichita and Topeka.  A lot of rural type conferences love Manhattan.

varneys is a huge space in a very important area. so putting something there that offers absolutely nothing to the people that live in mhk IS the downside you dork. it's called opportunity cost.

guys, I'm sorry.  a hotel in Manhattan's only entertainment district is a silly idea.  Since I don't live in MHK, I just didn't realize how negative of an impact such a development would have on townies.  For that matter, I didn't realize how much shopping/entertaining locals actually did in Manhattan.  must be a LOT.

I need to travel more, so I have better perspective on these things.

S'YENRAV (known amongst college students as "The Rav") is Manhattan's newest and most exciting live music venue. Located in the heart of Aggieville in a converted former store that sold purple stuff, The Rav regularly features the following bands: Pomeroy. Energetic crowds of young and old alike have come to enjoy The Rav's historic charm combined with its hip modern amenities (words like "craft" and "artisan" appear on much of the decor inside). With future bookings rumored to include Eve6, The Rav is sure to be a gathering place for locals for years to come.

1)aggieville is not manhattan's only entertainment district.
2)there is already a hotel in aggieville and another one three blocks away.
3)nobody has said it's a "silly" idea. just that it's not beneficial for residents.
4)stop posting about manhattan related things. if I could ban you from posting on the topic altogether I would, but can't so I'm asking nicely.
