Hamilton OFFICIAL MUSICAL THEATER THREAD
« on: January 15, 2016, 08:53:50 AM »
Let's talk about the new hit broadway musical, Hamilton!

Favorite songs?

Characters?

Personally, I like King George's numbers a LOT.  I was kind of slow on Angelica and Eliza's songs, but they've grown on me, especially Take a Break.  I literally LOL'd at a handful of parts my first listen -- especially when Lafayette comes blasting in spitting hot fire with a French accent.

Me too.  Unfortunately it's sold out on Broadway for the foreseeable future.  Tickets for Chicago go on sale soon.

In the mean time, Spotify has all the songs.

I've been listening almost exclusively to just Hamilton over the last week, and there are 15 or so songs that I think could be in my top 3 songs from the show.

Would also want to see it. It and Book of Mormon back to back would be a great time.

Is Hamilton like a serious musical or is it more like Book Of Mormon? Do you think Gooch would like it based on the quote below?

I would see more musicals if they were funny and said "eff" and talked about clitorises.

It's definitely not Book of Mormon, but it doesn't take itself quite as seriously as Les Mis or something like that either.  It's not so much funny as it is clever.

"Best of Wives and Best of Women" is equally heartbreaking.

Yes!  Burn and It's Quiet Uptown are mostly what I've been listening to lately.  The strings in it's quiet uptown at the "forgiveness, can you imagine" part are so good.

PurpleBear4 has told me that he just has to show me a song and then played the opening song of Hamilton the last 8 times I've seen him.

Great performance last night.  Loved how crazy the audience went for it.

My brother saw it last month and was telling me it was one of the best current musicals. Maybe my brother is a secret Grammy voter  :surprised:

Heard a lot of talk about it but haven't listened or anything. I'm guessing I'd enjoy it a lot but it seems like a big hassle to get tickets and stuff.

spotify, son.  it's basically an opera so you don't miss out on much by just listening to it.
