When I worked at Boeing, at 9:30am everyone who wanted to would go into a conference room for stretches.
These were mandatory for everyone including office staff not just workers in the shop at NORDAM. Total waste of time. No wonder that place basically went out of business.

Why is it called radio exercises?

because they were (maybe still are?) broadcast on the radio for everyone to do at once.

reading on Wikipedia I was surprised to learn that this practice was actually adopted from america

I first heard of this practice watching the movie "Gung Ho" starring Michael Keaton. You should rent the dvd of that and put it on your coworker's desk that gave you Ghost in the Shell.

It's also mandatory for all employees and contractors at Mars.

Puni, have you seen Gung Ho with Michael Keaton?

I think on tbs or some crap as a youngster. lots of people would reference it at my old job when I told them I was taking this one.

I think its time for a rewatch.

def get the uncensored version.    I was like  :horrorsurprise: when the censored profanity with random words

Puni I guess you and me suck at communicating together.  1) I don't get how that is stereotypical.  2) I thought it was we that stereotyped them, allegedly.

Small but real. I was just in harajuku Saturday and Lolita's far outnumbered the steampunks.

puniraptor, please compare and contrast the japanese carrot scene with the american carrot scene.

comparisons: available, orange, whole

contrasts: no "baby" carrots, round fatties compared to long skinnies, not used very often in local cuisine

in general, the quality and diversity of available produce here far exceeds the US norm. carrots seem to be an exception. I really only see this one kind, but in my experience they are very good as far as carrots go.

not very. japan is protected by fully modern US missile killing tech and I don't think NK will be successful at putting a nuke on a missile for the duration of my time here. I think the biggest risk of me being nuked will be if I travel to Seoul on the wrong day.
