Not following the greatest coach of all time.

It's not that he's the greatest coach of all time.  He's not.  It's just hard to follow a demigod.  Being HCIW has some advantages, and it's disingenuous to say that it doesn't have any.

I think the vast majority of people here, including myself, would just rather see BV as the HC next year.  But if he chooses to go another route, then I understand why.  It worked for Jimbo Fisher.  It worked for Chip Kelly.  In a roundabout way, it worked for Helfrich.

I mean it's not outside of the realm of possibility that both Snyder and Venables have talked to Bowden and Fisher about the advantages/disadvantages of such a situation.

I'm fine with Snyder staying as long as he wants, I don't know why you tacked that on. He's definitely earned it and I don't think he'll have a season or recruiting class disastrous enough to change my mind.

But if we bring on someone new, they should be able to run the program however they see fit immediately. Letting Bill maintain control honestly won't be what's best for anyone but Bill and probably Sean.

A lot of our fans would also want Saban to HCIW for a year too, ya know to learn how to run a football program the right (only) way.

Seriously, as long as Venzy comes home, no one will care whether or not he spends 1 year as a HCIW.

If that's not how you feel, I apologize.  I do want him to move on.  So, maybe I'm projecting.

There's no way we make a change at this point.  It's too late in the game.   Maybe it's as simple as the fact that Bill, Brent, and Currie have agreed to something, but Brent doesn't want to come to Kansas State until after Clemson is done, and maybe Bill wants to give his assistants more time to find good jobs, or audition to Brent, by announcing earlier in the year.  If we've crossed some sort of milestone date, and Bill really wants to take a step back and quasi-retire more than he already is, and he wants to make sure his staff is taken care of, one way or another, and Venables really does consider this his dream job, then maybe they figure just making the move after signing day is the best move for everyone involved.  At that point, you may as well make him HCIW because that's the only move that's really left on the table unless you just want to put everything off for another year, but what's the point of that?  I've already outlined the advantages of being a HCIW.

This could have been a completely different conversation if Venables was set to coach Clemson in the Russell Athletic Bowl, but that's not what's happening.  There's no way he would even consider walking on Clemson or making this a distraction before the Orange Bowl.  Based on everything that I glean about him, that's not how he rolls.

Again, HCIW is more of a matter of convenience than power in this situation.  Bill is already half out the door at this point.  Venables coming in just makes the timing better for everybody, and I'm sure Currie would pay Venables whatever he's making at Clemson, if that's what it took.

And it didn't work out for Danny Hope at Purdue or Will Muschamp at Texas our James Franklin at Maryland or Joker Phillips at Kentucky.

Fisher appears to be the only one hired as HCIW? All the others seem to be already on staff, which is a major difference.

The point of BV waiting another year is he would probably make more money at Clemson next season and possibly land a better job after next season. Also who knows how long he would be HCIW.

bill's victory lap is going to be so sweet
hopefully he rides around opposing stadiums on a hoverboard while flipping off all of the fans and teams that he has completely dominated for the last 20 years.  which would be all of the teams.  because he has.  meanwhile BV is in the pressbox banging all of the wives and daughters of important k-state people, until 5 mins before kickoff when he wipes the sex off his face and joins the team on the field to begin DoD3.

at halftime of our last game, as a final goodbye, BV nails a bunch of chicks at midfield while snyder films it and they make a sex tape together.   then after the game, all the coaches and wyatt go into that big theater in vanier and watch the tape and laugh and high five and go cats.

Cheesy Mustache QB might make an appearance.

The big money is ready to make sure he makes more as HCIW here next year.

When they did it at those other places, the HC's in question had more of an indefinite length of time.  I wouldn't assume that Venables would come here as a HCIW with some indefinite tag.  There would have to be a solid expiration date, around 12 months, and it would probably be backed up in the contract with a significant penalty if we didn't make it happen.

I completely agree that Venables wouldn't come here for some indefinite length of time.  It would have to be set, and it would have to be a year or less.

Well, the rumor/assumption is that he doesn't want another job.  He wants this job.

I didn't realize we were talking about a HCIW agreement unlike any other in history. My bad.
