So we're looking at a week on property in 2018. It my oldest kid's senior year and I let her choose the vacation. Shoot me.

How's the construction looking at the different resorts? Any places to definitely avoid? Family of four with two teenagers.

And go.

Boardwalk, Beach Club, Yacht Club, Swan or Dolphin. The kids can walk into two parks from there and the entertainment options are better in the evening from there. The only construction I know of is at the carribean and coronado which you shouldn't stay at anyway. use your bud to get you a 2 BR suite at one of the first three I posted or get a 2 BR at the Swan/Dolphin with cash if you don't have a ton of SPG points.

Did an evening at Animal Kingdom a few weeks ago. I was impressed by the park.

They've done a great job with Pandora but it could use a third ride. Nighttime is pretty awesome. The Navi River Journey is pretty to look at but too short and pretty lame over all. Flight of Passage is the hottest attraction so expect at least a 90 minute wait unless you can get a fastpass.

I had extra magic hours so I lined up around 11 thinking the line would get shorter then. Still took me until almost 1am to get on the ride. There's a lot of cool stuff to look at while in line, but I'd never wait more than 30 minutes to ride this again. the ride itself is just a fancy motion simulator in front of a screen. You watch a movie of flying around while sitting on a motorcycle-type seat that moves a little. Made me feel a little queasy at times. I'm not a huge fan of motion sims.

I was way more impressed by Everest and Kali River Rapids. I had never ridden those rides before, so doing them for the first time in the dark was quite a rush.

All in all I give AK two thumbs up.

I also had an event had Epcot. God Epcot sucks so bad. It's just friggin terrible.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, K-State fans could have beheaded the entire KU team at midcourt, and K-State fans would be celebrating it this morning.  They are the ISIS of Big 12 fanbases.

Thanks for the review KSUDub, haven't been to pandora yet. Haven't even seen the movie actually. Agreed Everest is incred. I actually love Epcot :shy:

Going to Disneyworld Light in September. Kids are still little and they want to see Carsland and I want to go to the beach. Staying at a Marriott right across the street. Pretty excited. Going to see how it goes and plan a future Disneyworld trip with the elite help of SD.

I seriously had no idea what Everest was. I thought it was a more typical dark ride like Splash Mountain with a drop at the end. Good thing I like roller coasters. When that thing stopped midway through the ride and then launched us backwards - in the dark - that was awesome. The Kali River Rapids was also awesome at night because you couldn't see much except for the mist and flames all lit up. Then that drop comes out of nowhere. Disney should incorporate more rides like those into their other parks!

In my opinion, all the rides at Epcot blow. The nations thing is kind of fun for a quick walkthrough, but they built all these amazing looking buildings with nothing inside them but shopping and restaurants? I will say that they've got several good restaurants - I enjoyed my dinner at the biergarten - but I'd never do Epcot again unless I was on a multi-day park hopper, and then I might go there for a few hours one evening to do a dinner and a quick walk around.

Disney overall has some great stuff but I think I'd be sick of it after 3 days. Which is probably why they practically give additional days away after the first 3 just to keep people on property and spending money.

I stayed at the Swan and Dolphin which honestly seemed kind of old and run down. Next time I think I'd opt for the Contemporary, Polynesian, or Grand Floridian.

Which side did you stay on? Swan or Dolphin? I know the Dolphin is not yet through their renovation of the rooms and they are re-doing the entire lobby and common areas.

I was on Swan side. The room was fine. I just wasn't really impressed by the resort. Nice pool grotto area.

Yes it's friggin hot right now. And rainier than usual. And crazy crowded. June July and August are not good times to visit.

I might consider going during one of Disney's "free dining" promotions, which have been announced for a few weeks in November and December, but the conditions are pretty restrictive - have to book at least a 5 night stay at non-discounted room rate and buy at least a 5 day ticket with parkhopper. That's not cheap. Could end up being a lot more expensive than just doing three days and paying for your food.

Will be in Tampa for work in early February.   Trying to decide if it's worth bringing the fam along and doing 2 days at DW afterward?

Universal is a much better destination in summer because unlimited fast passes for resort stay. And the resorts/pools are top notch and easy walks to both parks.

"We want the redhead" is soon to be no more.... http://www.cnn.com/2017/06/30/us/disney-pirates-of-the-caribbean-wench-change/

That was my favorite part of the ride, but I suppose people were offended.

One comment on the Disney Parks' blog post that announced the renovations called it a "horrible, horrible" idea.

"The new idea isn't funny, doesn't advance the story (and) is insulting to the original. Smooth move," the commenter wrote.

Another comment on the post said in part, "As one of the last rides Walt (Disney) oversaw I'm very sad they felt the need to change this. We need to stop shielding people from history. Why don't we just give all the pirates cell phones instead of interacting with each other."

Today's kids have just been shielded from too much to handle an amusement park ride where pirates take captive women and auction them off to rapists. It's a sad, sad day.

The story is now ruined. I won't  spend another dime on a Disney theme park ride until the sex slave trade is back for my amusement.

The story is bad enough, but it's more than that. They've ruined history. Now kids will grow up thinking that Captain Jack Sparrow was a good man who wouldn't even rape a woman. They won't know what a monster he really was.
