the removal of his athletics-related performance clauses recently doesn't exactly give warm fuzzies

This may have been addressed before, but where did the "John just cares about money and not success" talking point come from?

If you are referencing what I said, I didn't mean to imply that John only cares about money and not success. Long term the two usually go together though and I think John will be willing to give oscar more patience because a) he hired him and b) he'll give him some leeway for losing a bunch of players even though he recruited him. Eventually oscar failing will get him fired, I just don't think it will be after this season, no matter how bad.
Not you in particular. Just seems to be the herd mentality here on gE. That as long as people are showing up and supporting the team that John won't care about making a coaching change.

Almost that it will take a financial hit as opposed to a performance hit that will get him to hire a new coach.
If performance in basketball was important to Currie he would have never hired oscar.

As long as bball doesn't do terrible damage to the finances of the AD, then Currie could not give less of a crap how well it performs.

Here I thought we had the BTF to remain competitive in basketball?

Even Pete Rose bet on his own team.

Sadly enough, ISU has higher football standards than we have basketball standards.

ISU has employed Rhoads for 7 years. I don't think Weber will last that long at K-State, but maybe I'm thinking with my heart instead of my head.

Weber won't last that long at KSU with Rhoads like results.

Weber would get 6, at least.

oscar inherited a much better situation and he's already done more than Paul could ever imagine even with the mess he created after last season.

This year is basically a free pass, but there will be legit pressure in year 5 to be an NCAA team and if he doesn't make any postseason  he will be gone. JMHO.

yeah I'm saying if Weber had the NCAA version of a "bowl" in year 4 he'd definitely get to year 6 no matter what.

i don't like it when people say that this year is a free pass.  it seems that i think the team will do better than most here do, but if it doesn't, i'll be very sad if weber isn't buried for it.

Free pass probably isn't the right phrase; I think most mean he's pretty safe from being fired after this season. However, a bad season this year will put pressure on him going into next year and 3 bad years in a row would put him in a lot of trouble.

oscar would be justifiably furious if currie ever fired him for performance.

Actually, I think he'd be embarrassed and would lash out a bit but generally be good with how much money he walked away with.

But it'd be shitty of currie to fire him when oscar is 100% delivering.

I don't like it when people say that oscar has a free pass this season only because, while true, it fails to convey that he actually has something like 4 to 8 free passes going forward with a very good chance to earn additional free passes and a very small chance to be rewarded with a lifetime free pass.

what do you think earns oscar a lifetime pass?  Sweeping the hawks?  Sweet 16?

Just a second ago, I read a post about oscar and it included a ref to his 5th yr.  It made me really sad, guys.
