asking someone what house they're in is the "what university did you attend" of the undergrad world.  whatever their answer is gives you a rich source by which to judge them.

Have we had the what fraternity/sorority were you in thread? I don't love "what house are you in" because it short changes our Panhellenic brothers and sisters.
Whoops.  Yeah I try to say what fraternity or sorority, but old habits die hard.  Also, I want to punch anyone that asks me if I call my country a $!#*.

Yes, those people are the worst, stupid analogy.

Tonya was right.  Hazing scandals make headlines, fundraisers and philanthropy events don't.

Facts:  Since 1825, all but three U.S. presidents have been members of a fraternity.  85% of Fortune 500 executives were part of Greek life, and college graduation rates are 20% higher among Greeks than non-Greeks. (GDI's are notoriously less intelligent)

Aside from the awesome parties, and girls who ignore people like fanning in favor of us, students who join Greek organizations to build a network, make friends and develop leadership and social skills will likely graduate, get better jobs and have more meaningful careers then the rest of you dorks.

In other words, we're better than you.

So most fraternity members are white upper class males.

Is there any more revolutionary information you would like to share with us? Cool discovery though, demographics are like totally new and unknown bro.

The fraternity GPA at K-State blows the non-Fraternity GPA out of the water.  There may be some self-selection there, but I think there's something to be said for the structure fraternities give.

it should also be noted that fraternities and sororities can change their roster for grades at any time in the semester. so, not 100% valid info on the grades but they are still higher than the non greek avg.
I think what my friend Mitch is trying to say is that true love is blind.

I never heard of this but I suppose there is some way to do this.  I know we were required to submit all active member's GPA's each semester to the national office and those who fell below the minimum GPA requirement which is ridiculously low like 2.35 or something were put on social probation and if it happened two semesters in a row they were suspended and could not live in the house.  We enforced it but only happened a few times.  I mean how hard is it to keep a 2.35 GPA

It's ridiculously easy, but K-State accepts anyone who can make it out of high school with a 2.0 GPA, so we have a 4 year graduation rate of 28%. Fraternities have a much higher collective GPA at K-State, but about 50% of all freshmen on campus are complete dumbasses.

You can't change it at any time.  You submit the roster at the beginning of the semester.

One thing we do is maybe leave off the guaranteed retards.  Also there may have been a few 4.0 types that weren't in the house that made it on the roster.  Kinda like "hey, who the hell is Clarence Beeks?"

In my dorm hall, first semester there were about 13 freshman guys who were social.  Only three of us made it to the second semester, and it took one begging a dean to let him go on.

Pledges (non-actives) figured into the GPA.  And ya this was early 2000's so it could have changed several times since then.

We would have parties all the time and let underage people drink and IFC would be there and we'd be like "oh ya he's 21" but really he wasn't.

That's one of those things you don't hear about because the media only focuses on negative things.

Yes, I believe so. Although, I've got many awesome tri delt stories. My buddy lived in a house (actual house, not a frat) right across the street from them on the corner. They'd come over there all the time to drink. I got to know those ladies very well. Many of them are Vegas cocktail waitresses now (not that there's anything wrong with that).

Were they running a bar out of that house?
I lived across from the tri delta house. Some guys who lived immediately next door to them tried to have a margarita stand once. Took Manhattan's finest about 20 minutes to show up, lights blazing.

When I lived in Woodway, my neighbors got busted for "operating an illegal saloon".  They weren't smart enough to give the keg beer away for free with purchase of a solo cup.

Are you  seriously that detached from the student life at your school? How sad. You didn't live in a resident hall or belong to a student org? Homecoming isn't just for Greeks.
