Here's something to think about when it comes to elite MWC Basketball:

Quote
Starting with the 2009-10 season, the Mountain West and Missouri Valley Conferences will hold an annual challenge series between all nine members of the MWC and nine of the ten MVC teams in basketball. The first game was on November 13, featuring the Bradley Braves and the BYU Cougars in Provo and it concluded on December 23 with the Wyoming Cowboys visiting the Northern Iowa Panthers in Cedar Falls, Iowa.

We'll be on par with Wichita State!   :pbj:

God I hate this whole thing.  Hopefully some of the news reports saying that A&M and Texas want to preserve the Big XII are accurate now.

shoot me in the rough ridin' face if this happens.

You do realize that Frank's and whatever coach follows Snyder's salaries come primarily from private donations, don't you?  You really think the BOR would have passed Frank's raise while the state was operating in a massive deficit?  No, it passed a moderate salary with the rest coming from private donations.  How much is whatever tv deal the Big East signs going to be, when divided between 20 schools?  Will they even give us an even share, or will the bigger names get bigger shares?  At some point, you have to admit that you're living above your means and we've already maxed out all our credit cards and we can't take out any more mortgages...

Most of the TV money in question is football TV money. I assume that the schools who don't play American Football (as opposed to World Cup Football) don't get any of the aforementioned football TV money. So we'd be dividing a football pie by 12.

The phone finally rang. Interesting. Was told things are actually calming down. I guess that would be outside of wild media reports. This person still believes the Big 12 will move on as a 10-team conference for now. Interesting stuff. Played down the Big East angle. I guess that's something to ponder if the Big 12 does shatter.

We all know most of the coaches salaries come from private donations . . . and the good news on that in case you missed it is that private donations are up over $2 million dollars year over year.    But a potentional $4 to $6 million dollar hit on revenue is just that.   There isn't one AD in the Big 12 who wouldn't be freaked out at least a little by that prospect . . . yes, even DeLoss Dodds would be a little angst laden.   Everyone else, including Lew Perkins would be freaked . . . ku for example is running an extremely tight budget, in fact right now their annual operating budget is in the red.

But you know what's going to be hilarious.   If the Big 12 stays together and its just the cool kids at CU, and butt hurt Cornhole moving on.   Than both of those schools are going to be forking over a lot of money back to their old friends.    The other thing to consider is that that the Big 12 Tier II TV deal is back up for Bid in less than a year I believe, which likely means more money.

There's still 1% of me who believes that DeLoss Dodds and Texas secretly wants to see Cornhole move on out.   I think all this BS we're hearing about how the NU-Texas relationship on some levels is very strong is just that, BS.  They may have some academic wonks that collaborate and  are getting along great, but on the athletic side it's completely dysfunctional.   Cornhole is pretty much anti everything Texas wants, so Texas orchestrates Cornhole right out of the conference, we have a 10 team league, no Dr. Pepper game to contend with, Cornhole has to forfeit millions in TV revenue, the rest of the Big "12" moves on.    Let me reemphasize I am not clutching my Kathead tight hoping and/or seriously thinking that happens .  . .  it would just be kind of funny if it did.

I hope that those who are saying run to the MWC are ready to increase their Ahearn Donations dramatically.  Because that's what it's going to take to overcome the $4 to $7 million dollar hit that K-State will take based on TV revenue, non automatic BCS bid for the conference and bad bowl tie-ins.

Based on todays' numbers that's a 10% to 20% drop in K-State's athletic budget.

Goodbye Frank . . . hello SLTH, kiss any chance of landing Gary Patterson or any coach like him goodbye.

those of you who have been chugging the koolaid need to realize that we've been midmajor since before we joined the b12.  our teams have been acting like it for the past 20+ years, now it's time that our fans started to.

it's only weakened if texas/big 12 wants it to be.  adding markets larger than omaha/lincoln and fracking denver won't be that difficult to make the tv package comparable to what it would have been and to what others will receive.

Well K-State may have been acting like a mid major from a dumbass management perspective, but K-State outspends most mid majors by $10 to $15 million dollars a year on athletics and in most cases less than 50% of that spending gap comes from bowl revenue/tv revenue.   The majority of that gap is generated by ticket sales and contributions.   Setting some the outliers aside, if K-State is back up in the $11 to $12 million dollar per year contribution range, that is more than many major conference schools get per year in contributions and most mid majors are 1/3 of that at best.   The only "mid major" that is up with K-State on expenditures that I've seen is TCU.    So yeah, I completely agree that from a management perspective K-State has been extremely amateurish, but I am not with you on the rest.

SD . . . while little Davie Ubben upchucks the Captain Obvious points of the day, he like most of those guys doesn't take into account future changes to the Big 12's TV contracts and likely full green light for Texas to start their own network.    IMO even a new Big 10 will garner more TV revenue in the future and if Texas can get their network, they simply won't care.   Geez Ubben . . . that was a story for 3 months ago.

Let it go and embrace it.

We're in survival mode now, kids.

At some point we simply have to turn our attention to whatever it takes to stay alive and remain viable - whatever that might be.  Nothing is ideal from this point forward if we are to reamain above the mid-major level.  That's the blunt reality.

And if that happens, we basically should go ahead and go to the Mountain West because KU will get the Pac-10 invite over Baylor or Utah.

A lot of our future is riding on A&M right now.
