There's a tiny bit of smoke out there that the Big 12 is talking to Houston, and it's essentially for political reasons.

As mentioned before, Perry is trying to "reform" higher education in Texas, and it sounds like this could be a strategy to create a voting bloc between Texas, Tech, and Houston.  Also, it puts a huge Big 12 school in A&M's back yard.

Just smoke.  Nothing more.

if this happens I am just packing up and going home for good. The Big 12 would be so idiotic to add Houston.

That came out of a tweet of a Florida radio/website/podcast guy saying his producer heard they had talked. I listened to a 15 minute podcast of the two that gave the complete background of why the tweet was made (and why its coming out of Florida). He said he talked to a Houston administrator at the CUSA BB tourney that told him Houston had approached the Big12. The message was that Houston doesn't like the new AAC and it won't make the kind of money they expected.  They approached the Big12 to determine if there was even a remote chance they would be up if the Big12 was forced to expand. The message the podcasters were try to convey wasn't the chance that Houston might go to the Big12, but more about how there is already instability within members of the AAC (and its impacts on UCF and USF) and that Houston's goal is to be out of it by 2015. If the Big12 isn't an option, they may try to go MWC.
I got a guy on the other line about some white walls

All ten teams are doing well for themselves financially. I think we should stay at ten teams for at least five years

Don't know if this has been discussed, but here's what my KU neighbors are discussing:

KU is working to develop revenue streams and build their endowment so that they can stop accepting funding from the state of Kansas.
 1.  Escape the shifting political climate involving post secondary education funding in the state of Kansas,
 2.  Allow KU to move in conference realignment without having to take K-State with them.

Guise, they really hate us, and the 3 confy championships by K-State in the only sports that matter is only making it worse.  It's like we're married to Mila Kunis, and they're the neighbor that's married to Honey Boo Boo's mom.

So, can they do it, and if they can, can they do it in time?

Five years is an eternity in realignment. Too much can happen between now and then to just stand back and watch.

Here's a Pro Tip:  UPKS in so many words has been talking about life at K-State with little to no state funding since about the 3rd minute he stepped on campus.   As it stands right now, only about 20% of K-State's funding comes from the state.

K-State (like ku) is about to launch yet another massive fund raising drive and this coupled with K-State 2025 is pretty much geared towards life without state funding.

A couple of other tidbits.   On top of the new college of business building, and the expansion of the engineering complex which are going to happen.   Is a $75 million dollar expansion and renovation of Seaton, placed on the BOR future projects list, as well as a new residence hall.

KU is also building a new Engineering building (construction trailer already in place), and a new Business building.

It has always baffled me why two Universities in the same state, an hour and a half apart are so competitive with the same colleges.  BOR isn't allowing K-State Olathe campus to start an MBA program because KU Edwards has one.

There is plenty of interest.  Some local companies who send their employees to places like Purdue for E-MBA's said they would start sending them to K-State Olathe.  Pretty frustrating for the Business school.  Right now though they are concentrating on funding for the new Business building.  UMKC will finish up the new Bloch School of Business this summer, and KU is in the funding phases of theirs too.  So many MBA programs in the KC metro area that BOR is giving KSUO the big FU.

Some Havs talking points from up north.

1) Campaign Iowa State raised 867 million dollars. Challenge accepted. http://www.foundation.iastate.edu/s/1463/index.aspx?sid=1463&gid=1&pgid=525&cid=1499&ecid=1499&ciid=3423&crid=0

2) Oh boy, a new (singular) engineering building! Land grants will always own at engineering, even if "University ofs" get all the way to having two engineering buildings. The number of U of I grads who brag about their one Engineering Hall, while Iowa State is in double figures, is comical. Follow our lead, K-State.

3) Good luck catching up to Iowa State with buildings like this going up: and enrollment reaching 32,000 students.

Good stuff. There is a reason why KSU/ISU engineering grads dominate the JoCo to Waterloo/Cedar Rapids manufacturing corridor.

KU has raised over $1.2 billion since 2008 for its Far Above fundraising campaign.  With admissions standards increasing, new business and engineering facilities under construction, as well as expansion at the KU Med Center, KU has really improved its situation over the past few years.  BGL has done a great job since taking over for Chancellor Hemenway.

Hey, guys: there's a rough ridin' band playing.  Put your penises away and just enjoy your cigars like civilized people.

Welp... its your turn K-State! Rise up!

Shut up Havs
