One key factor that OU and Texas reportedly are worried about is the power they will lose in a 16-team super conference. Each will be just one of 16 votes instead of 12.

And then there's the natural factor that the current schools in the Pac-10 will remain loyal to each other and will have the numbers to win every vote over the six new members from the Big 12.

"If people thought they had culture problems in the Big 12 (Nebraska AD Tom Osborne felt that way)," said Castiglione, "how are the (Big 12) schools going to feel if they go to the Pac-10? We don't know."

Yep . . . Despite being in California, UCLA, USC, Stanford, Cal consider themselves to be west coast Ivy's . . . IMO they're not going to let 10 gallon hat, 25 inch rimmed extended cab 4x4 pickup and a belt buckle the size of a pizza platter OU and Texas to come in and start pushing them around.   Particularly Stanford and Cal.

Status quo numbers projected forward (using MWC TV payout) . . . it's a about a $6 million dollar hit for K-State.  

Plan A:  Basketball centric with decent to good football . . . Assuming that the Big 10 blows up the Big East, and also takes Maryland.   Than Iowa State, K-State, KU and MU need to be on the horn with WV, Pitt, Syracuse/UConn (more on that in a moment), Louisville, and Cincinnati and a TBD.   IMO Syracuse or UConn will be Maryland's replacement in the ACC.   Anybody thinking otherwise doesn't understand the finances of college athletics.   IMO Duke and UNC say not no, but hell no to Kansas in the ACC . . .  in addition ACC schools already travel up to BC, so UConn or Syracuse are right in sync with their travel coordinators, on the Atlantic Coast traveling North to South and vice versa is much easier than traveling East to West.  

Plan B the far worse option:  Utah, BYU and TCU break way from MWC . . .  those schools together with Boise State, K-State, ku, mu, Iowa State, Baylor, Houston and New Mexico form a new conference entirely.  

$6mil isn't quite as bad as I thought.  Was thinking it would be close to a 25% drop.  Still, $6mil would be hard to make up immediately, maybe we can finally cut womens basketball and add something cheaper.

That was just TV . . . it's harder to calculate what a possible non BCS automatic might do . . . in looking at the numbers the MWC bowl payout share has been pretty strong, but that's because they've had 3 teams play in BCS bowl games in the last 5 years, and only 9 teams to divide it amongst.

Now back to the topic.  

I'd like to think while I am concocting a radiant tapestry of pipe dreams.   That Dan "tard" Beebe has been on the phone with Arkansas, particularly IF . . . IF this Fox TV thing has any merit.

Why??  Well as I pointed out awhile back, Paul Finebaum . . . SEC syndicated radio/sat guy and columnist for the Birmingham Newspaper wrote a column last week that ripped Arkansas and South Carolina.   Finebaum made the point that the newbies to the SEC haven't done anything.   The last significant thing either one did was win the NCAA basketball title 16 years ago.  In so many words Finebaum called both schools newbies who have done nothing but suckle on the teat of the SEC and who don't bring anything to the table.  

So . . . Beebe tosses a bone out there to Arkansas . . . better TV deal, and the Big 12 gets realigned East to West instead of North to South . . . Arkansas getting lumped in with the remaining Nortards sans Cornhole.    Such a scenario gives Arkansas a much easier path to the CCG in football and a possible BCS birth.  They've been to the SEC Championship 3 times, and non partisan watchers turned the channel by halftime, they got smoked each time.

Therein lies the rub.  Arkansas can sit back and bask in the BCS bowl and TV money (which is much much more than the Big XII would provide) without every getting any better than average at football.  Going to  BCS game even every five years would not make up that difference in money.  No its better for Arkansas to sit back and let the big boys of the SEC feed it.
