Again, the age old question . . . why would Texas want to change conferences when the Big 12 has made them the most wealthy and potentially the most powerful athletic school in the country??   Why do they want to go butt heads with USC and Stanford and UCLA??   In several of their sports, that rack up Big 12 Championship after Big 12 Championship because only a couple of other schools even have them . . . in the Pac 16 they may not even sniff 3rd or 4th place.

have to hope for complete chaos and more expansion from the big 10...trickle down effect could leave BCS teams without a home in the ACC or Big East and then cobble a BCS league together with East/West Divisions.  Also, keep the Big 12 name and conference in existence and collect payout checks.

AKA Plan E

Oh, and on one thing I believe Keitzman actually did research correctly and actually did understand .  .  Big 12 is a Delaware Corp .  .  . Delaware Corp's can be dissolved by a simple majority barring an existing agreement on dissolution.

From Orangebloods:
Quote
What remains to be seen is if there will be any schools left to collect the buyout penalties of $10 million for bolting the conference. You need a super majority of nine votes to dissolve the Big 12.

No clue where they got that info from.

Maybe everyone already knows this, but according to Ralphie Report, it looks like they're just going to try to create a 16 team Pac-10/Big12 with 2 automatic qualifiers.  This is the part that cracked me up--Texas, et al is basically just going to do the Alliance with the Pac 10 AND kick out the poor little sisters of the North (some of whom beat them on a regular basis), and then tell the BCS that they want an automatic qualifier for an 8-team league.  It totally does away with the championship game.  I guess that could essentially steal away a potential qualifier from the MWC.

It's pretty stunning how badly they want to eff the Kansas City area schools.

Of course there's a couple problems with them just deciding to take CU--they are just going to go ahead and ignore the Texas legislature (we'll see how that pans out).  Also CU has very little commitment to athletics, and not nearly enough resources to compete in this new league.  They'll just become a huge doormat in every sport outside of cross country running.

It's pretty obvious why we don't have a playoff system right now.  If there were a playoff, the big schools would be forced to share the revenue with every FBS school, not just inside their conferences.  The more schools they can eliminate from the BCS pie, the easier it is for them to hold their positions between the haves and have-nots.

Great stuff.

Fitz, on doing his job, why he doesn't have any legit journalistic sources, and why he's a lazy piece of sh*t.

It is dumbfounding to me that there isn't a single credible media source, outside of BITB even attempting to cover this story from a K-State perspective.

God damn I miss J-Mart at times like these.  Seriously.

Exactly. Don't think many bandwagon fans are paying $100 a year to be here. All I know is if the Cats are in the Big 12, Mountain West, Big East, ACC or freaking Missouri Valley, we will work our ass off covering them and the true fans will still want all of the information they can find.

I don't want MY SCHOOL to revert back to the '80s when the football program was on the verge of closure and a declining student population, therefore being considered "mid-major." In no way suggesting this will happen, but there are a lot of programs in place now that depend on a successful athletic program. You can correlate the increase in student enrollment, gifts to the school, etc, to the incremental success of the football program. And the reality is it takes revenue sharing from a lucrative conference affiliation to make all this exist.

I've said this in a post earlier, and I agree with Fitz in what I said a few days ago. While some of our fans may become disappointed in what happens, it would be sad (as I said in a post) that some would actually back off from our beloved university and not support it again even if we were to fall to a mid-major. I hope some on here do not let what happens keep you from being a die-hard KSU fan. That is what will disappoint me the most of all. So, we don't play Nebraska no more. So, we might not remain in a BCS conference. Okay, crap happens in life. That doesn't mean you stop living! So, don't let a possible change in a conference (even a change to a lower prestige conference) make anyone not come to a game or come on GPC board as much anymore. That would truly be ashame!

I am still of the hope that Texas was bluffing and Colorado will instead go to the Pac-12. Then, the Big 12 either adds two teams to the North, or picks up two teams in the South and moves OU and OSU to the North. I don't think Texas really wants to join in with the Cali schools.

I'm wondering if I'm overreacting here a little. I mean, we're pretty likely gonna wind up in the MWC, which is pretty likely gonna be a BCS conference. And even if we are like the 5th best football program, that's a pretty big step up from right now. And it's not like it's gonna hurt our recruiting.

What it really sucks for is basketball. No more UT games sucks. Plus, the Nortards are officially disbanding.
"How will I recruit to Manhattan? Well, distance. And the proud state of basketball. It start there, and then daily flights to Dallas, because I'm really good at going out. Like top five good. Ask my wife. She wants me to be happy."

Exactly. Don't think many bandwagon fans are paying $100 a year to be here. All I know is if the Cats are in the Big 12, Mountain West, Big East, ACC or freaking Missouri Valley, we will work our ass off covering them and the true fans will still want all of the information they can find.

What do you want us to say or do? In reading all of the comments from K-State officials, have you learned anything? All of the decisions right now are beyond K-State's grasp and they will have to see what happens.

Unfortunately, it appears the cannon is aimed at us.

Heck No. But at the same time   Reply

This is really good to hear, I know there are lots of us that value your thoughts on this stuff even if your just spectating with the rest of us.

Would have thought by now this board's punching bag would be Terry? Guess Fitz is just to easy of a target. But I leave it at that, everyone does relaize that the south 6 to the PAC 10 is nothing but a bluff to make the Nubbs show their hand right?

Don't be a dumbass.

Don't be a dumbshit. I swear just because you post on this board does not mean you have a big male genitals that you can flop around and say hey Fitz is an dumbass look at my big male genitals. :powerespect:

Anything can happen . . . me . . . I am back to 6% thinking the South schools stay . . . still don't quite see Texas wanting to go someplace where they know their power will be diminished to a degree.    In addition, I can't help but wonder a little bit about the Pac-16's commish's wet dream of 2 automatic BCS qualifiers if the USC 2 year post season ban is true.

And . . . does a 10 team Big 12(10) hurt or increase the chances of 2 BCS qualifiers for the Big 12 (10)??   No CCG . . . so a 2003 scenario is out the door, however a (example) 12-0 Texas and a 11-1 OU . . . with the OU 1 loss being a down to the wire game with Texas likely still gives the Big 12 (10) a legit shot at a 2 team BCS bid, probably just the same as rolling the dice on an upset in the CCG.

Still floating about out there is this rumored Fox deal.

Wow . . . still lots of great BBS'ing ahead.

One thing we know for sure, we won't get anything of substance from GoPo . . . they've been neutered and sent to the back of the line.

not sure if i comprehend.  an 11-1 UT or OU would never be left out of the BCS.  or did they that year when UT,OU and Tech all tied?

Castiglione subdued, but says the Big 12 is not dead just yet

by: DAVE SITTLER World Sports Columnist
Thursday, June 10, 2010

OKLAHOMA ATHLETIC DIRECTOR Joe Castiglione didn't try to mask his emotions Wednesday night when he acknowledged Nebraska most likely will announce by Friday that it's leaving the Big 12 for the Big Ten.

"I think it's over with them (Cornhuskers)," a dour Castiglione said in a late-night telephone interview. "It feels like somebody died.

"It's that emotional for so many people who put so much into creating the Big 12."

Castiglione was one of the league's architects when the Big 12 started forming in 1994. He was Missouri's athletic director when the Big Eight Conference morphed into the Big 12 ? starting competition in 1996 ? with four Texas schools.

OU's AD since mid-1998, Castiglione isn't ready to declare that the obviously serious blow in losing the Cornhuskers absolutely means the Big 12 is dead. Several media outlets have already speculated that without Nebraska's powerhouse football program and national reputation that the Big 12 can't survive.

"I'm not one of those people," Castiglione said. "I still think the Big 12 can be a viable league with 11 teams, and perhaps even 10."

Speculation remains that Missouri still might get the Big Ten invitation that Tiger officials were so self-assured about for the past few months. And rumors persist that Colorado finally will make the long-rumored jump to the Pac-10.

If the Big 12 dissolves, the Pac-10 also looks like the destination for OU, Oklahoma State, Texas, Texas A&M and Texas Tech.

Baylor and Colorado continue intense talks in behind the scenes meetings, but not with each other. They are jostling for the final spot if the Pac-10 expands to a 16-team league.

Castiglione acknowledged that BYU and Air Force are two teams the Big 12 might look at if it can convince Texas to help hold the conference together.

While Castiglione also confirmed that the Southeastern Conference has shown interest in the Sooners, OU's position is that it's going to stick with Texas wherever the Longhorns go because of the long history between the two schools.

"I think it would be a horrendous decision for OU and Texas to break up," Castiglione said. "We're going to stick together if it's at all possible."

Castiglione said he expected Big 12 commissioner Dan Beebe to release a statement immediately after Nebraska's departure becomes official. Beebe, Castiglione and Texas AD DeLoss Dodds apparently remain unified in their desire to save the Big 12.

But what if the Pac-10 comes calling in the next few days with a very lucrative offer for OU to join what could be college football's first super conference?

"I don't know what would happen at this point. We just have to wait and see," Castiglione said.

One key factor that OU and Texas reportedly are worried about is the power they will lose in a 16-team super conference. Each will be just one of 16 votes instead of 12.

And then there's the natural factor that the current schools in the Pac-10 will remain loyal to each other and will have the numbers to win every vote over the six new members from the Big 12.

"If people thought they had culture problems in the Big 12 (Nebraska AD Tom Osborne felt that way)," said Castiglione, "how are the (Big 12) schools going to feel if they go to the Pac-10? We don't know."

The power Texas stands to lose in an expanded Pac-10 has to be reason enough for the Longhorns to continue to seek ways to make sure the Big 12 doesn't disband.

"We worked really hard (with Nebraska) to try and make this work," a subdued Castiglione said. "But it apparently wasn't enough."

Call this pure speculation or maybe just hoping for Fitz's sake because I still count him as somewhat a facebook type friend but I think he knows something but has been asked to not say anything and to not Patterson this one up until all the cards are laid out. JMHO

the patterson thing is the best thing to ever happen to fitz then. he can keep doing absolutely no work for the rest of his life and people will still keep paying him money and just say "oh well. fitz totally knows everything that is going on and just doing want to mess things up again."

genious plan by fitz here.
