I am not toying . . . everybody else is saying they're going to the Big 10, so f'it,  K-State to the Big 10.

I've heard of us going to the Pac 10, not the Big 10. The travel expenses would decrease significantly though, so I'd take it.

Because of the Pac 10's pairing system, our proximity to KU would presumably be beneficial to our chances of making the conference.

How well would a 20 team conference fair? Can you imagine the BB tourney? The West at the staple center, East at the Ford. Get together for the last 2 rounds at the Pepsi Center. Amazing.

Holy smokes.  Could you imagine the Big 20?

Football:  two 10-team divisions, during conference season you only play every other team from your division.  Preserves the football schedule for the Pac 10 schools and lets every former Big 12 team play each other every year.  Then, you rotate the championship game between the freaking Rose Bowl (stadium) and Jerry World.     Sorry, crappy Georgia Dome and SEC.  Sorry, crappy Jacksonville and ACC.  Sorry,  crappy Big 16 football playing in some (albeit newer) dome in Indy or Detroit.

Brent:  "Folks, you are looking live at the beautiful, historic Rose Bowl in sunny Pasadena, California, on a crisp December evening.  It's 55 degrees here, and we're set to watch the Trojans of Southern California take on the Longhorns of Texas for the Big 20 championship!  The winner gets a ticket to the national championship game, and the loser most likely gets a nice consolation prize: a return trip to this stadium in just under a month!"

Basketball:  Split into 5 4-team pods.  KSU-KU-ISU-CU. OSU-OU-UT-aTm. BU-TT-AZ-ASU. USC-UCLA-Stanford-Cal. Oregon-Oregon State-WU-WSU.  You play the teams in your pod home-and-away. You play the other pod composed of all your former conference members every year, each team either home or away. Then you play 2 of the 3 remaining pods every year, each team either home or away.  (The mixed pod would just rotate to play 3 of the 4 other pods). Total of 18 conference games a year.  For travel to the far away pods, you utilize the same pairing system the Pac 10 currently uses.  Thus, you'll have only two long trips each season.

I like this.  Although I'm naming it the Big Pak (c).  Sorry 'zacker.

Here is what I am starting to believe.  We stay at 10 teams.  Pac10 stays at 10 teams.  We each play 1 pac10 each year.

Goddamnit, Trim.

Apologize in advance, but I wanted to be the first to coin the Big Pak.  I also am fond of the the Pak-20.  Nice ring to them both.

 :barf:

why is that bad if it produces our own Big Pac (<--- official non-renegade messageboard name) Network?  We already do it in basketball.  And with the kind of potential inventory available in football (ie. elite matchups like UCLA v Texas, OU v Oregon, KSU v USC, etc) all schools would probably stand to make millions upon millions more in tv revenue, even if it was distributed unevenly.

I also believe that this happens, except that there will not be a network, merely a cowardly arranged (but decently profitably) deal with existing network(s).  However, I pray to Allah that I am wrong and that they indeed do a Big Pac network.

In my opinion the real benefit to KSU if we do a network is that it will create a "bond" between the Big 12 and Pac 10 that will save our asses a few years down the road when it's "mega-conference or bust" for everyone.  A joint network would attach us at the hip to the Pac-10.....and when it's clear that it's "grow or die," the two conferences can more quickly pull the trigger to formally merge as one conference.

Having said that, I have no reason to believe that Dan Beebe is capable of any of this.

Our hope has to rest with the Pac-10 Commissioner who apparently smells fantastic.  He seems to be the one driving this thing.  Or at least I can't imagine Dan Beebe driving it.  But in the end, I agree, we'll probably just get a "better" tv deal and not a network.

And going to 10 teams and playing a conference schedule like the Big 10 does in football would be fantastic, imo.  And in basketball it would force an 18 game conference schedule.   :lick:

Ya, the basketball schedule stands to gain a ton from this, particularly if they increase the number Pac vs Big matchups (which they would literally have to be stupid not to do).

you mean pac 10.  greatest thing aboiut mizzou/nubb leaving would be a balanced schedule in bball.  fball is a little off balance cuz some teams get 5 home games and other would only get 4.  would be aweseme though to get to play every team in the conference every year making the regular season mean something.

12/14/16 team leagues basically render regular season conference championships meaningless because of the unfairness built into the scheduling.

if the big 12 becomes the big 10, would there still be divisions in fball? without them there would be no big12 championship right? also, if neb and mizzou leave then kstate will lose it's big rival for fball and ku will loose mizz. seems like ku and kstate could become rivals?  :dunno:

agree with perkins.  more likely nothing happens than something happens.  2nd most likely - mu leaves by itself and is replaced with a single team.

Probably. But as an AD of a school who could easily be left out of a major conference soon, don't you think he should show a little more concern than that? Or is he too busy covering his ass in these investigations that he just hasn't had time to see what's going on with the conference realignment/doomsday scenarios?

Two 10 team conferences would be fantastic, replacing the current Dr. Pepper with a Pac-10 v Big 12 (would we keep the name?) champs game rotating between Jerryworld and the Rose Bowl would be a significant upgrade in revenue.

Also, a 20 team conference basketball tourny could be make a killing if they wanted to, give bye to the top 6 in each league? then you have a killer 16 team tournament?

A 9 game fb schedule where the remaining North teams are playing at least 2 game a year in TX would be a major blow to MU and NU recruiting in TX.

But as an AD of a school who could easily be left out of a major conference soon.

there is a 0% chance that ku is left out of a major conference.  worst case is they get downgraded into the worst high-major conference.  not even sure that is a negative for them.  same-sized fish, smaller pond.

Of course Lew isn't concerned he the one that started this mess.  The butterfly effect, screwing over MU to get KU in the Orange Bowl.
