For sports fans of the university it probably won't matter much in the short term.  For the actual University it will be bad.  Funding will be effected as will enrollment. The disparity between KSU and KU in terms of funding will drastically increase.

I don't believe that at all, but I guess we might find out.

Someone tweeted about how the Big 10 will look at Va Tech, Georiga Tech, UNC, KU and Notre Dame and then invite two. I lol'ed when I read it because it makes it sound like the Big 10 thinks Notre Dame has just been sitting and waiting for their invite this whole time. Good grief.

So, if that list is accurate, it will be G-Tech and KU getting the invites.

That list isn't accurate for two reasons.

One, Va Tech isn't a candidate.  It's Virginia.  The Big Ten isn't screwing around on the whole AAU thing.

Two, the easiest teams to extract, by far, are Virginia and Georgia Tech.  GT would leap at that invite, and they are infinitely better for the Big Ten's model than Kansas.

when KU goes to the big 10, they'll have to raise their admissions standards, correct?  would basically eliminate a lot of the jucos players in ks?  we might actually be able to win some of those battles.

Having Iowa in the Big 10 has worked out okay for Iowa State.  Just look at them.

Texas Christian University coach Gary Patterson has been hired as Kansas State's 34th football coach, multiple sources have confirmed to GoPowercat.com.  Patterson replaces Ron Prince, who was fired Wednesday. - Tim Fitzgerald   Nov, 7, 2008

Cheyenne is not taking KU to the big 10. It's not worth even arguing against.

Look at Iowa. I don't think Iowa in the Big 10 has anything at all to do with ISU being shitty at sports. If anything, ISU is highly regarded as an excellent academic institution and should serve to quiet some of those who think KU moving to the Big 10 will hurt us academically.

KU offers everything the big 10 would want.  Good market (there’s some study where like KC is the highest college watching viewers per capita or something), provides a recognizable brand name, provides a valuable 2nd tier inventory – specifically in basketball, and is an AAU member.  It would also cripple the B12 – if KU gets out of their GOR, then the PAC12 and SEC start Christmas shopping early.

By owning their own third tier rights for MBB, KU will probably make more money in the Big12 than they would in the big 10.

The big 10 likely does want KU, but they're not getting them.

I think it's true that the money would be a wash at best for Kansas, but you're crazy if you don't think BGL wants to be associated with the Big 10.

Guys, if KU is extended a big 10 invitation, their acceptance is 100% absolutely, unequivocally, unquestionably guaranteed.  To suggest otherwise is Fake Sugar Dick (WARNING, NOT THE REAL SUGAR DICK!).

Whether they are offered an invitation is the only question.

There would be many who would perceive KU and KSU to be separated, with KU being the superior school merely because of a more favorable opinion of the Big 10 versus the the Big 12.

You (I), may not agree, but there would be a LOT of that happening.

Many already perceive KU to be the superior school.

This is how we chafe the wheat between the smart people and the ignoramuses. The brilliant good-looking, accomplished people recognize KSU is far superior to KU.

I can't see how that would be relevant let alone appealing for the Big Ten.  Why would they want the test cases for busting the ACC and Big 12?  They went after Maryland in part because they wanted to open the ACC floodgates.  They're going to have to swing and miss on several ACC schools before they fall back on KU as a target.  They don't need another Midwestern basketball power with a shitty football program, they have that.  Delany's manifest destiny is east.
My prescience is fully engorged.  It throbs with righteous accuracy.  I am sated.

Would KU interest you more if they removed the track from their football field? I'm sure they would be willing to negotiate.

As long as I've known that it has always made me think of KU as incredibly jinky.  It's one thing to not win, but it's an entirely different thing to look broke-ass and poor.  I mean for eff's sake have some self-respect and get nice things.  Everytime I see anything KU-related that's always the first thing that comes to mind.  That's actually the truth, not even busting KU balls there.  I don't want them in the Big Ten because they "feel" gross to me.  Like all else being equal, I'd rather not be friends with a really ugly guy.

ku could fit into the Big 10, I don't deny that at all, I also understand that Atlanta is a goofy sports/college sports town,  one minute they're all  :excited: the next it's like where did everyone go.

With that said,  the ATL is still the ATL, and Georgia Tech is a highly regarded school and of course Virginia is one of the Top 5 public universities in the country . . . well, really one of the top universities period.     That scenario gives Rutgers/Maryland some buddies out their way, and the BiG enters major markets, with powerful academic schools that have good top to bottom athletic programs.

I agree, they're going to have to swing and miss on a couple targets, but the reality is that they're probably going to.

I get Virginia, to an extent.  They fit the Big 10 academic pedigree and would bring a pretty big media footprint.  But, the major sports are both marginal and do nothing to elevate the league's athletics profile, however.

What does UCONN bring?  Hell, they're like 10 years removed from D-1AA in football.  North Carolina, Duke?  Lol.  None of the schools from the Tobacco Road Mafia are leaving as long as they have a legit basketball league to compete in.

McMurphy (who I think has broken about every conference change) is pretty adamant about all B12 schools being locked into a 13 year deal.
