KS Pod- KS schools, OU schools
Where Else? Pod- ISU, Cincy, WVU, Lonely Bird
No Messin' Pod- Horns and Horns subsidiary institutions
South Pod- FSU, Clemson, Miami, NC State OR Va Tech

End result: Big Wha? But playing ball.

there does seem to be some money and sense in following the iowa state/iowa model. split the shools up in different conferences with different contracts that obligate them both to be on tv within the state and then have the schools play an ooc game every year. i mean that does make some sense, no?

Apparently, that's why the Texas legislature was good with A&M splitting.

Once everyone realized that the Big 12 wasn't splitting, legislators were apparently pushing for it.  It meant that they'd have 5 BCS teams (since TCU would get uplifted), and the domino effect pushed Houston and SMU up as well.  Or at least it was an uplift at the time.

I wouldn't be against being in a different conference as KU, I guess.  It's not my preference, but I wouldn't get upset about it.

*I fully realize this is never happening.

Could one of you who gets off to this stuff (panjandrum?) let me know if you think the Big 12 has any reason to be freaked out by the latest wave of bs?

Last year, K- State lost and the earth shifted.  This year, K-State loses and the conferences shift.  Coincidence?

my thoughts-

it really wouldn't be that ridiculous to ask ku to move to the acc and then add florida state or something. we are splitting the market as it is and they would be a better fit in the acc. then throw ku a bone with an ooc bball game at sprint center or something every year. would they go for that?

that would be the best thing to ever happen to the big12

No.

Short answer is that as long as we have the option of adding a good ACC school and Louisville, we should be okay.

If that option goes away, things will get hairy in about ten years.

Also makes west/east divisions easier when we add ACC leftovers.

"I don't think it's done," Oklahoma athletic director Joe Castiglione told the Tulsa World on Monday. "I don't have any reason to believe or know why I think that. Don't have any proof, don't have any evidence or any of that. It just seems there are other moves that could be made. Let's put it this way: at least they'll be evaluated."

The Big Ten now joins the Southeastern Conference as America's 14-team leagues. Does that mean the Big 12 will rejoin the frenzy and expand after two years with a 10-member model? Are Louisville or Cincinnati or Florida State or Clemson - or all - back on the table for the Big 12?

No. Although it should be said that those schools were never actually on the Big 12's table. Or that the Big 12 may or may not officially even have a table.

"The number itself isn't the driver of conference expansion," Castiglione said. "It's whether or not expansion brings increased value. And value doesn't always have to be defined in dollars and cents. There are many other value propositions that aren't solely related to the bottom line."

Of course, Castiglione isn't about to say the Big 12 definitely is sticking with 10, either.

"Certainly you've got to know what's taking place," he said. "We're in some uncharted territory."

It is clear, though, that the larger conference model "may be something we have to prepare for," Castiglione said, as college football remakes itself with a four-team playoff that could create an entire class of nouveau riche.

"The traditionalists, of which I count myself as one, question how some schools can give up relationships that span 80, 90, 100-plus years," Castiglione said. "But then we also have to realize, again, there are opportunities that some institutions feel are in their best interests to choose."

Quote
But what impact will a larger Big Ten have for everyone else? Same it's had so far for a larger SEC: No one knows yet. It too early to tell, although added television markets of Baltimore and Washington and New York and New Jersey will add TV sets, which will increase revenue for Big Ten members.

Now throw in how the larger SEC and Big Ten will jockey for placement in the new football postseason and the unknowns are truly unknowable. For now.

"It behooves us to pay attention," Castiglione said. "Those are the kinds of things that might incentivize a conference to grow. It's not, 'Hey, we need to have more in number,' necessarily. You have to think about what the additional number means to the conference and who are all part of the increase in number. It's what we are trying to do for the overall vision for our league."

I translate that article as, "We're probably going to have to expand for the sake of getting a stronger foothold in the postseason, and it may cost us a little money in the long run, but it will be worth it in the end."

Yeah, but it appears that the big 12 will only expand kicking and screaming, like a child eating his broccoli.

In no way, shape, or form will expanding the big 12 help the conference in the post season so I'm not sure what you're suggesting.

The Dude is busy tonight with some doozies...

http://www.eersauthority.com/expansion-update-acc-on-the-brink/

Big 10 adds: UVA,  Georgia Tech and UNC.
SEC adds  NC State & Virginia Tech
Big 12 adds FSU, Clemson, Louisville , and Miami.

So if these schools end up in these conferences to get to at least 14 , who will the pac12 add?  Or will they just stay at 12?  It seems to me that they're kind of stuck when it comes to adding another quality school, unless it's BYU and that's it.

Current Big XII TV Contract...$2.6B over 13 years (through 2025)...Each School receives $20M annually.

Here's my first question (I'm fairly certain this has been answered somewhere earlier in this thread, but GTFOOMF if you expect me to take the 15 hours to read it all)...

IF the BXII Adds teams through expansion...does the Big XII get to immediately renegotiate that deal, or is the same deal in place until 2025?

IF the answer is yes, then it makes perfect sense to add teams now. If the answer is no, I can understand waiting since I for one think the current rate of spending for TV contracts is NOT sustainable for 13 more years, and when we renegotiate in 2025 the world will be a far different place than it is now.

The other thing that nobody seems to be bringing up...The big 10 & SEC both have their own networks that they receive additional sub fees from when they add new markets...the BXII has no such network, so unless renegotiation of the ESPN/FOX deals is possible immediately upon expansion, we ain't expanding. (which leads to a 2nd question...does current TV deal prohibit BXII from forming their own network?)

When our contract leaked, Dennis Dodd said any teams going forward would get $20 million, just like the rest of us.  There is a rumor out there that we can renegotiate at 14.

So, potential for revenue generation is:

12 teams: No one loses TV money + CCG (may work out to 1-2 million per year per school)

14 teams: May open the door to renegotiate total deal

i can't imagine a worse way to spend sports eternity than the big 10.

They are really bad at football because they are super tired from constantly doing Scrooge McDuck dives into endless pools of money.  I'd like to make a Launchpad McQuack reference as well, but I'll be damned if I know how to fit it in.  Well would you look at that...
My prescience is fully engorged.  It throbs with righteous accuracy.  I am sated.
