The option is still there for us to go to 11 teams like the Big Ten did for around twenty years.
Get FSU, protect two games for each school like the Big Ten did, and hang out and see what happens.
I would like this option but only if I had any confidence that our conference and our conference commissioner had any idea how to market/sell/brand our conference correctly. They don’t and never have.
Bowlsby was a big part of the BTN and Pac-12 expansion. He understands what's going on. At least, I think he does.
I think the problem is that the pool of legitimate candidates is small, and the ones we really want are only warming up to the idea of moving. However, Maryland's departure probably turns the heat up a little bit.
I still feel really confident FSU is coming. There was a lot of fan inertia last year moving them in this direction, and the BOT was starting to lean towards supporting the move. The problem was you had a President who was hell bent on staying right where he was and a ton of uncertainty out there with the playoff. Now that there's more clarity there, and the fact that one-loss FSU is an afterthought in the championship discussions (behind us no less) and Clemson isn't even in the discussion, you have to think that they'll be more receptive this time.
