But what about the $50M buyout thing guys.

Won't hold up.

Please tell me more about why I shouldn't be worried and why we're all gonna be pak'ing in Tallahassee soon.   :excited:

The FSU guys are throwing around the word "punitive" when it comes the buyout.

They made it public record that they voted against the buyout increase.

Yeah, they'll fight it and probably win.

So wait, I haven't read anything about this really, other than the loopholes ND gets bowl-wise, but I assume Notre Dame is keeping NBC.  If that's the case, are they going to share the NBC moolah with the rest of the conference?

If not, it seems like I'm missing the part where FSU profits from this.

The problem is that the president of FSU has always been a ACC guy. He was at the presser today. I agree that the penalty wouldn't hold up but I don't think Fsu has the collective willpower to leave. Their administration and fans seem split. And that favors the status quo.

They get a couple million bucks and the privilege of having ND play in Tallahassee like once every eight years or so.

Won't the ACC restructure their shitty TV contract now that ND is in?

The President will do what the BoT tells him to do or he'll be teaching Geology at Wake Forest, and the BoT seems upset about this.

Yes. Each team will gain an additional ~1-2 million. Notre Dame basketball just is not worth much, and ND's home games are still on NBC.

Reports said today that their contracts (Tier 1-3) would now fetch around $19 million a year (up $1.9 million).

To put this into perspective, based on our current T3 pull, we'd be making in the neighborhood of $23.8 million per year.  Also, we would split bowl money, playoff money, etc. twelve ways (with FSU and a plus one) as opposed to fifteen ways.  More than likely, our pot is bigger to begin with as well.

It's a considerable amount of money that FSU is leaving on the table.

Does anyone have access to ND's TV ratings over the last three or four years? I find it difficult to believe that they're even the draw people assume they are with all the fragmentation of the market and their distinct lack of big games. When was the last time ND even had a chance at playing spoiler? The last exciting game they played was against USC in 2005.

Also bear in mind regarding ND & ACC football; there is no way that out of the 5 games that ND will be playing against ACC foes that more than 2 of those games will be road games for ND.  This means that ACC's football inventory will increase by a max of 2 games a year.  These games will be on ESPN.  Notre Dame's road games are already on ESPN so ESPNs inventory will not increase at all.  I don't see any value to this at all outside of ESPN putting both logos together on Sportscenter graphics.

Notre Dame is like a hot girl who somehow became a paraplegic. Still has a great rack, but she's in a goddamn wheelchair.

Curious as to whether Belvis thinks the girl and wheelchair should be crowd surfed.

Hm...Just seems weird if ND keeps their contract with NBC.  Then again, I'm very uninformed when it comes to this.

Well, the chairman seems upset, and apparently, the President is as well.

An ACC official told the Sentinel on Wednesday morning that the new exit fee goes into effect immediately. As of Wednesday morning, it will cost each member school $50 million to leave the conference, the official said. With the ACC expected to make more money in the coming years on its conference distribution deal, that number will only increase in the future.

"I don't know how you can justify that number," Bense said to the Sentinel. "But clearly there were enough schools that wanted that high exit fee."

Maryland, Bense said to Warchant.com, was the other school that tried to veto the measure. It still passed.

FSU president Eric Barron confirmed FSU’s vote against the measure to the Tallahassee Democrat.

Bense told the Sentinel that he and Barron spoke about the exit fee vote Tuesday night. Neither was very pleased with the news that was to come Wednesday morning.

Bense has not yet spoken with other trustee board members.

Personally, at this moment, if FSU wants to move (and I'm not 100% sure they do), I think we're looking at Louisville.

They have the ability to help finance some of that cash, and you bet they'd do it, especially today.

ND is under contract until the end of the 2015 season.  NBC is giving them $15 million a year, they won't let them out of that deal it is amazingly cheap for NBC, but really expensive for ND to buy their way out of.

Scuttlebutt on the webs coming out of the last Big East meetings was that NBC wanted Notre Dame to be the afternoon game sandwiched between Big East football games on NBC.

I think in reading some of that stuff, Notre Dame would get their contract renewed for something like 20-25 million per.  If they get that from NBC, and they get ten million from the ACC, then they'll be right up there with UT.

They're going to have to get the Big East because that's the only inventory available for them.  They invested a lot of Comcast money into NBC Sports Network and the Olympics being the exception they have the same inventory that Versus had when they bought the network.  Actually when they purchased Versus, that network still had some Big 12 inventory.  So they will have to overpay for the Big East because as you know all of the Big 5 conferences are locked up for a long time.  They also won't be getting anymore access to the NFL, NBA, or the MLB.  I think $20 million will be the absolute floor of the starting point of the ND negotiation when they start early next year.  If they lose ND they will be in play for everyone else and NBC cannot afford to lose them.  It's a tough position for NBC because viewership is declining and they are not sure where that is going to bottom out and how this will effect ad revenue.

Pete, can we get them a trophy?
