I think our top target should be Nebraska.  Corn fans are sad and I miss them. It's time to heal old wounds and reconcile. Do it for the kids.

Finally, I’ve received a lot of great emails lately. Here’s one — from R.J. — worth discussing:
“I don’t know if it’s still lingering depression from the UCLA game or seeing what the rest of  Big 10 looks like this year, but I’m starting to finally lament the fact Nebraska left the Big 12 as it stands today. What if just Mizzou, Colorado, and A&M left and we stayed. Then throw in TCU. Now you have ten teams in the Big 12 like this season but the Huskers are in there. How much do you think fans would kill to see this slate of games annually?
“I know we all hate Texas, but man if we had stayed, the OU rivalry would be back on an annual basis, and we would get that shot at Texas every year, along with our old Big 8 friends KSU & Okie-State. Heck, look at what it would be if just Colorado and A&M bailed. Throw out TCU & put Mizzou back in the mix. I know it was a good move for the university financially and academically, but you can’t honestly say as a fan you are psyched week in and week out  for the fixed schedule we have in the Big 10 (yawn) vs. would could have been now if Nebraska stayed in the Big 12. …
“There’s no one to hate in the Big 10. That is a problem. There are plenty of characters(villains) to hate back in the Big 12, and that just fueled the passion of the fan base. I’m starting to see more and more of an apathetic outlook from Nebraska fans. I think a lot has to do with not having any teams in our current conference to focus the hate towards. … I loved that Mizzou, KSU and even KU hated Nebraska. I loved the back and forth with their fan bases. That passion and spirited debate seems to be dissipating every week and every season, and that is sad to see. Now we just debate among ourselves about how bad or good we really are more so than at any time I can remember the last 30 years.
“Hindsight is always 20/20, but as I run through this in my head the more frustrated I get. For a man as reserved and patient as Dr. Tom appears to be, I’m surprised he didn’t step back and play out what I presented above in more of a long range outlook. Maybe he did. But if he did and this is what we are left with, then wow. That would be a huge fail.  Leaving because of the Texas threat or perceived threat is kind of weak looking back. Our best revenge on Texas for me would have been staying the course in Big 12 (the TV money was eventually coming) and start earning respect on the football field and start beating them at a more consistent pace than 1 out every 9 tries.
“If you can get buyer’s remorse from switching conferences I think Nebraska will start to finally feel that this season.  To reference Eugene Levi (car salesman) speaking with Clark Griswold (Chevy Chase) at the car dealership in the beginning of “Vacation”- he thought he was getting the blue sports wagon, but ended up with the Wagon Queen Family Truckster. “You may hate it now, but wait ‘til you drive it”. In the case of the Big 10 it’s the opposite- “You may love it now, but wait ‘til you drive it.”

Would take if they pay for FSU's exit.  Of course this would negate Nubb fan's desire for #Team10

All of Nebraska's fans feel this way, but almost none of them will ever admit it.

Doesn't help that Nebraska's cross-rival is Ped-U.  Hard to get up for a rivalry game that any D-II school could beat.

It will almost certainly never happen as long as Perlman and Osborne are there.

But there is no need to rush to 12.

So...11 team round-robin with 2 non-cons?

Or 3 non-cons and skip one team every year.  Get to play each team 9 out of every 10 years is worth it if the team coming in is Nebraska.

I do like playing everyone every year. 9 of 10 years is acceptable.

I wouldn't really want Maryland.  Their football program stinks.

I like their wild flag helmets though.

The combined CSA of Cinncy and Louisville is over 3.5 million people, the 21st and 32nd largest CSA's in the United States.

Just a little rational thought for once.   Look I know that neither Louisville or Cinncy are the sexiest picks.   But you have to start looking at exposure . . . that's lot of TV sets for those 2 schools.   Oh, and don't give me some BS about how the states are dominated by Ohio State and Kentucky . . . duh.   People inclined to watch college sports, and those are huge college sports areas, will tune in to those games.

I'll have to check with my ITK folks, but I believe Louisville already has plans and is just waiting for the right time to expand their stadium, pushing it past 60K seats.   From that perspective, Cinncy is a challange, but their stadium can be expanded, but they'll have some tough decisions to make and will need some "want to" to make it happen.    I know Pitt isn't good, but I thought Cinncy had some pretty stout athletes out there.

I have to laugh when I read some of the comments on Texas boards about these kinds of things, because I think to myself that for years they LOVED the SWC with Houston, TCU, Rice and Baylor.

I think today's developments are good for the Big 12 (assuming we want FSU and another elite).  FSU was already mad.  Now Maryland's mad.  This is where the Big 12 should slide in and hit on them while they're out looking to revenge eff and make this happen.  That $50m won't stick.

Well, to be fair, it's amazing what access to $20+ million a year and multiple games in Texas will do for a football program.

Yeah, I mean I'd  but when does the $50 million kick in?  Do they have the gnads to actually fight.   Some fomer State Rep FSU Big Shot is quoted as saying he fully supports ND to the ACC and says it helps FSU.   What does their pres think?   I know they could be saying one thing and doing another, but I just don't see enough horsepower there for them to actually make the move.

Cinncy I can see . . . Louisville is different, it just is and to say otherwise is Bull$hit.   They aren't USF or UCF or Houston.  They're way beyond that.

Louisville I'd hate but could live with. Cincy isn't even the most popular team in Cincy. If we're gonna be taking schools like that we might as well take my undergrad Texas State because hey, 30,000 students, and Austin/San Antonio media markets with major alumni bases in Dallas and Houston.
