@bws - Well, the truth is that we'd probably get more if the original lineup were together, theoretically.  However, without the defections, we may not have had the unity needed to move forward with equal revenue sharing, partnership with the SEC, etc.

It's hard to say.  What came to pass probably had to come to pass eventually.

Oh yeah, i agree. I was joking.

The one thing I really wonder about now is, if we are making this much from the champions bowl. How much would a Big 12 championship game fetch in this frenzied television rights market? I assume quite a bit more than what the conservative estimates have said.

I'm sure they know what it would bring and have been told by ABC/ESPN.  I'm sure they would get first crack at that.  The new frenzy about how much extra the Champions Bowl is going to make is coming from the bids from cities to host it.  It's been said that New Orleans has a war chest of funds to use in this bid, so I'm guessing that forced Jerry to throw out some ridiculously huge number to get it in Dallas.

Well, it's essentially a war between the Cotton Bowl and the Sugar Bowl, so yeah, I'd expect there to be a lot of money involved.

Are we entirely sure that with the reworked contract that ABC/ESPN would get the CCG?  Fox has the rights to the Big Ten and Pac-12 CCG games.  I'm sure they'd make a play for ours.  NBC might, too.

So what are we hoping for? New Orleans is a way better city to visit on our inevitable multiple trips to the Champions Bowl, but the Superdome is garbage with lots of terrible seats and Jerrytopia is beautiful and perfect but Dallas is stupid.

Dallas, no brainer.  The majority of our fan base are like the Beverly Hillbillies, would prefer to drive.  :driving:

Change it for him.

Also, I vote Dallas.  The two best conferences in the history of the world should meet in the best stadium in the history of the world.

New Orleans is kind of a historic college football town.  Honestly, I'd vote for that.  Geographically, it's pretty equidistant for members of both conferences, so that's nice.

Dallas exists in the only state that both conferences share, so there could appear to be some form of neutrality.

Honestly, I think we make more money with the Sugar Bowl and New Orleans because that game will just become a massive party and it's in a destination city that's great for hosting football.

I agree that NO is the best destination(and still driveable from KS in one day) but the Deathstar has the most revenue potential with all the suites, club levels and high number of corporations in the metroplex.

Maybe I'm wrong here, but doesn't the bowl venue bid on the game and then keep all of the revenue from ticket sales, suites, etc? If that is the case, why does that matter to us?

Both are great venues too hold the game.  So wouldn't disappoint me if they alternated or either/or.

My understanding is the B12 and SEC just want the host to cut them as big a check as possible and then it is up to the host to squeeze out all the revenue they can - kinda like a neutral site game at Arrowhead

No, that was probably a stupid assumption on my part.  I'm guessing we have a good feel of what the networks would pay for a CCG, but it's probably dumb to assume that ABC has some special inside track.

Well, if the Big 12 were to go with Fox, the only CCG they'd have left is the ACC, and, welp (refer to earlier linked image).

We'd get prime time ABC or ESPN for that.  We always did, but we'd be their main attraction.

So if it is really 2.5x more than expected, does that put us (Big 12) in a range that makes the FSU/Clemson/Notre Dame(maybe pushing it here)'s of the world have no choice but to bail for greener pastures?

http://espn.go.com/blog/big12/post/_/id/53775/big-12-grant-of-rights-deal-in-late-stages

Quote
Big 12 commissioner Bob Bowlsby was back in his home state on Tuesday, and told reporters at a news conference in Ames, Iowa, that the league's new television deal is nearly finished.

Part of that deal is a 13-year grant-of-rights agreement as well, which surrenders each team's media revenue to the conference for the duration of the contract.

"We don’t have it all signed, yet,” Bowlsby told reporters. "Of course, when I was in the Big Ten, we went almost three years without a signed contract with ABC.

"I expect we will get (a Big 12 deal) wrapped up much quicker than three years."

It's no cause for concern yet, but Bowlsby's comments this week don't sound much more advanced than the same ones he told me and a few others after his news conference to announce his arrival as Big 12 commissioner this summer.

It's been a few months since then, but a deal's still not done. I don't have any real doubts that it eventually will, but I have to think it's taken a little longer than Bowlsby and everyone involved believed it would.

The deal is reportedly worth $2.6 billion over 13 years.

Every time anyone comments publicly on the deal, it sounds like it's almost finished. And yet, it's still not. Odd.

"It’s a 10-way contract," Bowlsby said, "that 10 presidents and 10 general counsels and 10 athletic directors have to get comfortable with. So, we’re doing a collective word-smithing process right now that is not particularly efficient, but it will eventually result in a good outcome."

I hate contracts.  You submit one, then someone submits one back with the scratches on it, then you send it back, and then they send it back, etc.

Some are easy, some are hard.  I can imagine that this would be pretty strange with ten schools, two networks, and a myriad of Tier 3 platforms that need some content.

I would hate to be in the CMO on this thing.  That thing's going to look like War & Peace.
